We are seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs) to join our team!

OAW physicians also share their knowledge, skills, and experience with the broader medical community through teaching and publishing at the local, regional, and national levels. OAW's medical and surgical services are complemented by PAs, nurses, and other health professionals.


Summary of Roles

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) are advanced practice nurses responsible for administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during surgeries and other medical procedures. Due to their specialized skill set, they are experts in critical care and airway management.


Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs) are highly skilled anesthesia care providers who work under the direction of an anesthesiologist to deliver safe and effective anesthesia services. They are trained in all aspects of anesthesia care, including preoperative evaluation, administering anesthesia, monitoring patients intraoperatively, and assisting in post-anesthesia care.


Together, CRNAs and CAAs work in a highly efficient care team model, with our anesthesiologists, to provide high quality patient-centered anesthesia care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an effective anesthetic plan.
  • Manage the patient's airway and respiratory status.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after a medical procedure.
  • Prepare operating rooms, set up equipment, layout supplies, and prepare necessary gases.
  • Perform regular patient visits and legibly record findings in the patient records.
  • Request and assess diagnostic tests.
  • Remain up to date with the latest advances in the anesthesia field including the introduction of new medical equipment and techniques.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Graduate from an accredited anesthesia program (CRNA or CAA).
  • Current certification or board eligibility as a CRNA (NBCRNA) or CAA (NCCAA).
  • Must have a current license to practice as a CRNA in the state of WI.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS required
  • Strong commitment to patient safety and collaborative care in a team-based anesthesia model.
  • Must be skilled in airway management techniques
  • Possess superb communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of current anesthesia practices and techniques.

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time CRNA experience
  • EPIC anesthesia expertise desired

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong prioritization, decision making, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment; must be able to multitask
  • Able to resolve conflict and work in ambiguous situations

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Flexible to work the days, hours, and evenings needed.
  • Works in a clean, well lit, air-conditioned environment with low noise levels
  • Will work independently at TOSC, in the OR, providing help when needed
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and squatting
  • Possible exposure to infection or contagious disease, needle puncture, injury from sharp instruments, or exposure to hazardous gases and compounds
