THE POSITION

Are you ready to take on a vital position as a Staff Psychiatrist with the Department of Human Services? In this role, you will provide essential care at Torrance State Hospital, supporting each patient's path toward stability. You will be leading treatment efforts that help individuals move forward with confidence. Your commitment strengthens the hospital community and gives you the opportunity to support high-quality care.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role provides full psychiatric care for patients who depend on steady guidance and clear clinical direction. It is a position that requires leadership, attention to detail, and collaboration with many medical and clinical partners. As a Staff Psychiatrist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct detailed psychiatric examinations and establish accurate diagnoses
  • Treatment Planning: Develop individual treatment plans by directing team discussions and using interdisciplinary input
  • Medical Interpretation: Review consultations, lab results, and clinical studies to determine appropriate treatment orders
  • Emergency Response: Lead psychiatric and medical emergency actions, provide direction, and apply trained procedures
  • Documentation Preparation: Produce reports, progress notes, treatment reviews, and competency assessments
  • Court Participation: Testify at hearings related to commitments, competency, and guardianship

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Possible evening, weekend, and holiday on-call hours.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of a residency or training program in psychiatry which meets the certification requirements of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Board of Medical Education and Licensure, or the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
