Job description

Job Title: Torque TechnicianJob Description

The Torque Technician supports production operations by ensuring all torque tools and fastening processes perform accurately, safely, and consistently. This role manages torque audits, tool calibration, and database monitoring, while collaborating closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to optimize tooling strategies and resolve issues on the manufacturing lines.

Responsibilities
  • Support production lines by resolving all tool-related issues and ensuring torque tools are set up and functioning correctly.
  • Perform daily torque audits per schedule on A, B, and C class joints and comply with established static and dynamic audit procedures.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints and apply knowledge of GD&T standards to establish correct torque parameters.
  • Establish and validate P-Sets based on engineering drawings and apply them to the appropriate torque monitoring equipment.
  • Manage and comply with the scheduled calibration program for all production tools to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain proper labeling and identification for all production tooling to ensure traceability and correct usage.
  • Adhere to safety and ergonomic guidelines when establishing, setting, adjusting, and replacing tools on the production lines.
  • Assist manufacturing and quality engineering teams with pilot builds, providing tooling support and torque expertise.
  • Identify, establish, and purchase proper tools required to meet production and engineering needs.
  • Implement fastener run-down strategies and coordinate with PinPoint or related systems to optimize fastening processes.
  • Set up, maintain, and monitor the torque database and audit routes for each product model.
  • Review torque audit results, analyze trends, and promptly notify management of any out-of-spec conditions or emerging issues.
  • Create torque-to-failure studies and joint analyses in response to engineering and quality assurance requests.
  • Assist production with additional duties such as RMO support, sorting, inspection, and troubleshooting torque-related issues.
  • Support rework activities by programming tools and creating appropriate audit strategies for reworked components.
  • Train operators on proper tool usage and ensure compliance with sign-off verification sheets and audit requirements.
  • Communicate with multiple tool suppliers to determine correct applications and configurations of torque tools.
  • Assist maintenance teams with preventive maintenance and tool repair for all torque tools in use.
  • Ensure all torque-related activities align with production, quality, and engineering requirements while maintaining high standards of safety and performance.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a Torque Specialist or equivalent external experience with DC torque tools.
  • 3–5 years of manufacturing experience in a production environment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Strong knowledge of torque concepts, torque monitoring equipment, pneumatic tools, and electric tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply GD&T standards to torque settings and tooling strategies.
  • Proficiency with computers and the ability to troubleshoot processes, products, and tool-related issues.
  • Capability to perform torque auditor duties across all production lines.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and manage multiple tooling and audit activities simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with production, engineering, quality, maintenance, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to meet changing production, quality, and engineering needs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • Experience establishing and validating P-Sets based on engineering drawings.
  • Experience setting up and maintaining torque databases and audit routes for multiple product models.
  • Background in conducting torque-to-failure studies and joint analysis for engineering and quality teams.
  • Experience implementing fastener run-down strategies and working with systems such as PinPoint.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and basic tool repair for torque tools.
  • Experience training operators on torque tools and audit compliance procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.66 - $24.66/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
