Job description

Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!
Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.
We're a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.
It's a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.
Kraken Customer
What we do: build the most AI-driven, innovative, forward-thinking platform for energy management. From optimizing resources to delivering cost-effective, exceptional customer experiences through advanced Customer Information Systems (CIS), billing, meter data management, CRM, and AI-driven communications, Kraken is powering the next wave of innovation in the energy industry.
Why we do it: future energy will not look like energy as we know it today. We need to not just think about our future, but build for it. Now.
Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need more people to help us make our vision a reality.
Kraken is the operating system for utilities of the future. Built in-house at Octopus Energy, we took them to become the biggest supplier in the UK, and now we power energy companies and utilities around the globe - in 10 countries and counting, licensing software to giants like Origin Energy in Australia and Tokyo Gas in Japan. We're on a mission to accelerate the renewable transition, and bring affordable green energy to the world.
We've reinvented energy products with smart, data driven tariffs to balance customer demand with renewable generation, and Kraken's platform controls more than half of the grid-scale batteries in the UK. We're driving the uptake of low carbon technologies like solar panels and heat pumps via our software for engineers in the field. Our platform allows our energy specialists to be the most productive in the industry.
We're looking to expand our impact by supporting utilities with distribution grid responsibilities as well as customer facing billing responsibilities. We do it by hiring clever, curious, and self-driven people, enabling them with modern tools and infrastructure and giving them lots of autonomy.
We're looking for a Principal Product Manager to define how Kraken supports Vertically Integrated Utilities, both in North America and across the globe. You'll deeply understand our utility partners' needs, and use those insights to shape a suite of products and experiences that improve the customer experience for our clients.
You'll collaborate across sales, delivery, product and engineering teams to deliver client outcomes and business value, making Kraken the platform of choice for Vertically Integrated Utilities.
Your initial primary focus will be to shape how Kraken approaches Global Product Compliance, ensuring our platform evolves to meet global regulatory expectations in a standardized, consistent and auditable manner, while maintaining product agility and innovation.
You'll balance deep customer understanding, product strategy, and regulatory considerations to help Kraken deliver innovative utility solutions at scale. While compliance is an important aspect of the role, success comes from applying strong product judgment to build products that are both customer-centric and adaptable to evolving market and regulatory needs.
What you'll do:
  • Define and own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for assigned products within the Vertically Integrated product group.
  • >
  • Partner with utilities, client delivery, and internal product teams to identify key needs and prioritize impactful solutions.
  • >
  • Translate insights from real-world utilities into clear product outcomes and measurable success metrics.
  • >
  • Develop, prioritize, and execute your product roadmap, ensuring we deliver required outcomes, within the timelines agreed to, while also building a flexible experience within our core application.
  • >
  • Drive standard frameworks and strategy for compliance topics across various product teams, ensuring alignment without constraining team autonomy.
  • >
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear product implications and client-facing narratives, supporting sales, delivery, and client trust.
  • >
  • Contribute to evolving internal compliance best practices and frameworks, helping teams navigate regulatory requirements through a product-led lens.
  • >
  • Work closely with engineering to build, test, and refine products.
