Job description

Title: TMO Dispatcher
Pay Rate: $20 - $25 per hour
Location: Midtown, Manhattan - New York, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule:
  • 8-hour, 10-hour, and 12-hour shifts available
  • Due to the nature of the EMS industry, we operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. TMO Dispatchers may be asked to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

About the Mount Sinai TMO:
The Mount Sinai Hospital Transportation Management Office works 24 hours a day, every day of the year to bring patients to and from needed medical care. TMO dispatchers work within the Mount Sinai Transportation Services Department collaboratively with health system leadership to maintain efficient patient flow for discharges and appointments requiring transportation.
These services include:
  • Transporting patients who are leaving the hospital, often to return home or to a nursing or rehabilitation facility
  • Bringing patients from home to outpatient appointments or therapies (such as dialysis or chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment for cancer care)
  • Transporting patients to and from clinical trials in which they are participating

The TMO facilitates patient transport requests at Mount Sinai Brooklyn, Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai Queens, Mount Sinai West, The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai South Nassau, as well as Mount Sinai ambulatory facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Call Management: Handle a high volume of incoming calls, prioritize, and dispatch calls using the CAD system
  • Resource Coordination: Determine the appropriate level of care and coordinate transport activities with field EMTs. Coordinate daily operations of the EMS Zone assigned.
  • Customer Service: Provide courteous, professional service to medical facilities, the public, and fellow EMS staff
  • Trip Assignment: Assign trips to the appropriate resources based on need and availability
  • Billing Support: Collect patient billing information and ensure accurate documentation of prebilling activities
  • Training & Mentorship: Mentor new hires and provide guidance to staff in the absence of a supervisor or manager
  • Team Support: Act as a resource for colleagues and assist with operational needs
  • Oversees compliant Call Taking, Dispatch and Pre-Billing functions for the assigned shifts
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • NIMS IS 100, 200, 700, 800 (must be willing to obtain, if hired)
  • Transportation dispatch experience preferred (EMS dispatch preferred)
  • Strong geographical knowledge of service areas
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations
  • Proficiency in typing (40-45 WPM) and data entry
  • Familiarity with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software
