Job description

GFT is seeking a PART TIME Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operatorย to join our Practice or CBG Team in Albany, NY! This role follows a on site position, requiring regular attendance at our Albany, NYย office.

We are currently offering the following positions for qualified candidates to fill current needs:

GFT is consistently recognized for our high-quality work, but it is our culture of excellence and strong leadership that has allowed us to earn a solid reputation in the industry, delivering award-winning project solutions that build confidence, shape communities, and spark innovation.ย What you'll be challenged to do:A Traffic Systems Dispatcher/Operator and Data Collection is responsible for Traffic Operations situational awareness, data entry and monitoring a designated region, district and roadway for normal and emergency conditions to identify incidents, coordinate response and update status for DOT and Consultant management in a 24/7/365 environment, using various software, CCTV and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:ย 

  • Situational Awareness: Understand what's happening on the State DOT road network in the Traffic Management Center (TMC).ย 
  • Traffic Monitoring: Monitor traffic cameras to spot and respond to incidents quickly. Use CCTV cameras, congestion info from state and commercial sources, crowdsourcing apps like Google Traffic and Waze, and work with partners like Police and DOT.ย 
  • Maintenance Dispatch: Dispatch DOT staff and contracted crews for routine and emergency road maintenance like fixing potholes, maintaining traffic signs, electrical traffic control devices, salting, and snow removal.
  • Road Closures: Proactively monitor road closures and notify DOT staff about any unauthorized closures.ย 
  • Equipment Monitoring: Monitor field equipment, dashboards, and software/hardware used in the TMC and report any issues to DOT maintenance staff.ย ย 
  • Traffic Monitoring Tools: Use TMC equipment and software to actively monitor trafficย 
  • Sign Deployment: Put up signing plans on DOT's Variable Message Signs (VMS) and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).ย ย 
  • Real-time Monitoring: Monitor CCTV cameras, electronic signs, vehicle detection systems, incident reporting systems, and other systems to manage trafficย 
  • Traveler Information: Ensure traveler information is communicated accurately and timely through DOT's channels.
  • Public Service Platforms: Verify the accuracy of traveler information on DOT's public service platforms and report any issues.ย ย 
  • Hotspots Monitoring: Monitor hotspots, smart work zones, and changes in road/lane alignments using CCTV cameras and other sources. Communicate with various stakeholders to get a comprehensive view of road conditions.
What you will bring to our firm:ย 
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in communicating information over a radio system or network.
  • Expertise in using freeway management and other traffic control computer applications.
  • Strong ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Effective coordination of real-time activities and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
  • Experience in handling calls, dispatching via radio or telephone, and communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using computers with Windows-based applications.
  • Flexibility to work alternate schedules and be on-call as necessary.
  • Familiarity with Regional DOT Interstates and local roadways (preferred).
  • Experience in public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, or related fields (preferred).

Compensation: The range for this position is salary range is $21-25 per hour.
