What are tipped jobs?

Tipped jobs are positions where employees regularly receive tips from customers as part of their compensation. Common examples include servers, bartenders, and hotel staff. In these roles, tips often make up a significant portion of total earnings, and employers may pay a lower direct wage (known as the tipped minimum wage) as long as the employee's tips bring their total pay up to at least the standard minimum wage. Laws regarding tipped jobs vary by state and country, so it's important for both employers and employees to understand local regulations.

What are common challenges tipped employees face in managing their income, and how can they effectively track and report their earnings?

Tipped employees often experience fluctuating income due to variations in customer volume and tipping habits, which can make budgeting and financial planning challenging. To manage this, it's important to keep a daily log of all tips received and report them accurately to employers for tax purposes, as required by law. Many establishments provide tip-tracking systems or apps, but employees should also maintain their own records to ensure accuracy. Being proactive about tracking income helps with tax preparation and can also provide valuable insights for personal budgeting and financial goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a server, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Server, you need strong customer service skills, basic math abilities, and familiarity with food safety standards, often requiring a food handler's permit. Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems and order management software is typically necessary. Excellent communication, multitasking, and a positive attitude are vital soft skills for managing guest interactions and handling busy shifts. These skills ensure efficient service, customer satisfaction, and higher tips in a fast-paced dining environment.

Job description

Server

We are hiring outgoing, upbeat servers who can connect with our guests; meeting and even anticipating their needs to provide a one of a kind dining experience that keeps them coming back!

Great communication skills are a must, as is the capability to work as part of a dynamic team. Are you someone who has tons of energy, great attention to detail, and an awesome personality?

Servers must be able to lift 15-30lbs, have the ability to handle cash transactions, stand for the length of the shift, and keep pace with our guests from casual lunches to packed Saturday nights. Actual work hours, whether full-time or part-time, will be based on work shift availability and management discretion. We offer medical, dental and vision insurance to team members averaging at least 30 hours a week, after the first year. The Rose Group requires participation in a mandatory tip pooling arrangement of 3% net sales from each shift with other qualified tipped employees. Think you have what it takes to be an ambassador of great guest service? Apply with us today!
