Job description

LOCATIONS DETAILS:

Harmonium is currently hiring youth leaders to work in schools throughout San Diego. Positions are available in Mira Mesa, Clairemont Mesa, Tierrasanta, Serra Mesa, the College Area, Pacific Beach, Mission Valley, North Park, and National City. If you are hired, you will be matched with a school near your location that has an opening for a youth leader.


POSITION SUMMARY

Harmonium is currently hiring youth leaders to work in schools throughout San Diego County. Positions are available in Mira Mesa, Clairemont Mesa, Tierrasanta, Serra Mesa, the College Area, Pacific Beach, Mission Valley, North Park and National City. If you are hired, you will be matched with a school near your location that has an opening for a youth leader.

The Youth Leader - ASES is mandated to take all steps necessary to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of the children enrolled in the program.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


RESPONSIBILITIES

โ— Maintain a clean and orderly designated school space

โ— Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students enrolled in the program

โ— Responsible for picking-up, maintaining and returning all devices being used during distance learning and remote working

โ— Must be able to work at least three afternoon shifts per week, class schedule will be required each semester for any scheduling conflicts due to school reasons, and schedule must be pre-approved by supervisor


JOB COMPLEXITY

โ— Supervise day-to-day activities of the program while maintaining ratios within contract

โ— Redirect inappropriate child behavior, provide disciplinary action, and notify Site Director - ASES when necessary

โ— Provide academic homework assistance

โ— Develop clubs, activities, and curriculum

โ— Work effectively across all program service areas for Agency wide effective communication and operations

โ— Under HRโ€™s direction will participate in preparing and reviewing in any legal related matters


STAFF SUPERVISION

โ— Ordinarily, no supervisory responsibility except occasional project based work


COMMUNICATION

โ— Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with school site, parents, children, and Harmonium staff

โ— Communicate with parents regarding their child on a daily basis


AGENCY LEADERSHIP

โ— Follow policies in own role which are determined by others; no responsibility and leadership required for service development, but may be required to comment on policies, procedures, or possible developments


DECISION MAKING

โ— Judgments and decisions are guided by Harmonium and program policies, contracts, and guidelines


MINIMUM COMPETENCIES


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

โ— Must be 18 years of age

โ— Must have 48 completed college units OR pass the Districtโ€™s Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (a basic math and literacy exam)

โ— Must have a minimum of 6 months experience (paid or unpaid) in any of the following settings: an after school program, group child care setting, or babysitting elementary aged children.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY

โ— Demonstrated ability in sports, special interests, hobbies, and/or arts & crafts

โ— Ability to relate well to children and adults


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UPON HIRE

โ— Valid CPR and First Aid certification

โ— Valid TB results (required every 4 years)

โ— Must receive Fingerprint Clearance (paid by Harmonium)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

โ— Ability to actively supervise and roam designated areas at all times to ensure a direct line of sight of all students including but not limited to:

โ—‹ Standing, walking, and moving for extended periods of time throughout the shift

โ— In the case of elopement, or a student leaving their designated area, the ability to promptly follow and safely return the student to their designated area

โ— Ability to operate a vehicle

โ— High energy needed with the ability to balance multiple high-stress tasks

โ— Ability to work in noisy and outdoor environments

โ— Ability to travel throughout the county with the flexibility required to meet job duties

โ— Frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping, i.e., desk and computer functions

โ— Ability to sit for prolonged period

โ— Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds

โ— Ability to operate a computer

โ— Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions


COMPENSATION

  • Starting Rate: $20.60 per hour (all new hires begin at starting salary regardless of experience)
  • Part Time benefits include voluntary benefits, a 403b retirement plan plus match, and CA Paid Sick Leave in addition to hands-on training, virtual courses, and live presentations.
