What is the opportunity?

You will be responsible for architectural delivery in the Identity and Access Management domain for Global Security at RBC, both directly and working through a team of Solution Architects that report directly to you. You will play a critical role in defining the end-to-end architectures and designs for workforce, third-party, customer, non-human and agentic IAM solutions within RBC. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work closely with numerous business and functional areas across the bank.


What will you do?

  • Define solutions realizing workforce, third-party, customer, non-human and agentic IAM capabilities, develop and evolve solution architectures and designs, demonstrate solutions and meet stakeholders' requirements
  • Propose, evaluate and recommend solution alternatives that best meet business strategy, requirements, current state environment constraints and alignment to target state architecture
  • Deliver architectures and designs in agile/SAFe project delivery framework, supporting the agile team's delivery by ensuring sufficient architecture runways is available, and providing technical leadership and guidance
  • Manage a team of Solution Architects to ensure effective architectural delivery across several projects and solutions
  • Support the development of comprehensive IAM strategy roadmaps, and provide input to product backlog refinement, prioritization and feasibility assessments, while also ensuring the delivery teams have sufficient focus on addressing technical debt
  • Author patterns to drive reuse of IAM services across the bank
  • Be an authoritative and trusted partner in IAM capabilities, standards and best practices for the bank
  • Liaise with other enterprise architecture and development/engineering teams to ensure that all solution architecture views are defined and elaborated, and that solutions are implemented as designed
  • Participate in and support the execution of RBC architecture governance


What do you need to succeed?

  • Technical leadership and strong verbal and written communication skills to guide project delivery teams to implement the solutions that you have defined; strong negotiation skills to compel stakeholders to adopt your recommendations
  • Extensive knowledge and application of IAM capabilities: authentication, authorization, user, credential and role management, access certification, privileged access management, secrets management, etc.; hands-on experience with designing solutions with these capabilities and the use of these solutions across all types of user populations
  • Experience designing enterprise security services that are highly reusable across a wide variety of requirements and use cases.
  • Extensive experience in designing solutions to meet regulatory requirements in Canada, the UK and US applicable to the financial services industry
  • Diverse solutioning experience in a variety of environments, platforms and channels
  • Practical experience in a variety of protocols and standards in solutions, including SAML, OAuth, OIDC, SCIM, FIDO2, NIST 800-63, etc.
  • Practical experience with different architecture and design framework (e.g., Zachman, TOGAF, SABSA) and techniques (e.g., OO, Top-down, structured analysis, component-based design)
  • Extensive experience in applying IT risk management practices to assess, measure and reduce risk related to the IAM domain
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area of study (computer science, mathematics, engineering, etc.) or other BS/BA degree with a concentration in computer science or information systems
  • IT experience of 8+ years with 5+ years in solution architecture experience on large projects, with proven experience in defining and evolving the architectures of solutions with large user bases from project initiation to implementation to support
