Job Function Title: Mission Critical Facilities Operator
Summary: Includes but not limited to:
Operate and maintain all aspects of mechanical, electrical and building infrastructure in mission critical data center. Monitor and operate equipment to provide 100% Uptime of the data center. Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment, machinery and controls located in the interior and exterior of building. Monitor operations and conduct routine and on-going assessment of the building systems operations and performance. This position is expected have the skills required to self-perform the repair and maintenance of all building infrastructure systems, other than major OEM tear down maintenance. Perform tests, rounds and analyzes data to ensure the proper functioning of all assigned equipment. Oversee vendors/contractors in execution of annual OEM preventative maintenance and repairs.
Know and understand all required critical environment management programs, policies, processes and protocols geared toward achieving 100% Uptime reliability. Comply with all written and verbal instructions from supervisors to protect the critical load and preserve the uninterrupted availability of the site infrastructure.
Qualifications: Includes but not limited to:
• Required: High School diploma or GED equivalent, technical training or degree.
• Desired 5 years (+) related work experience, in a technical, electrical and/or mechanical field.
• Ability to understand and interpret various design and construction documents relating to critical sites, spaces and systems. Work with design professionals or project management to keep record drawings updated as required.
• Proficient in basic computer applications and software such as MS Office and email.
• Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external customers.
• Ability to operate, troubleshoot, self-perform repair, maintenance and service required for continuous operation of all building infrastructure. (Including but not limited to)
a. Electrical (Uninterruptible Power Supply, Automatic Transfer Switch, Static Transfer Switch and Power Distribution Unit), generators, generator controls, fuel systems, switch gear, transfer gear and paralleling gear, lighting, energy conservation.
b. Mechanical (Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, Cooling Towers, Water treatment, Air Handling Units, Computer Room Air Conditioning, Computer Room Air Handlers, plumbing)
c. Fire / Life safety, suppression systems (dry & wet pipe), Gaseous, Early Warning Fire Detection, Very Early Warning Fire Detection (VESDA).
d. Environmental controls systems- BMS, DDC, CMMS, Pneumatics.
e. Construction (painting, doors, locks, wall and ceiling)
f. Digital systems (fire alarm, building security, card access, CCTV)
• Desired: Experience in working on energized equipment (hot work).
• Ability to maintain professional bearing and calm demeanor under duress during service emergencies.
• Technical knowledge and understanding of mission critical systems, including HVAC, Standby emergency power, uninterruptable power supplies, computer room air conditioning/handling, associated infrastructure and the interdependency of these systems in delivering 100% Uptime.
• Desired: Knowledgeable in Data Hall (White Space) power distribution, cooling, and networking fundamentals.
• Desired: Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
• Strong understanding of Mission Critical system operations, maintenance, engineering and design principles, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to assess the status of the building and its infrastructure systems, diagnose and troubleshoot alarms, solve technical problems and deal with a variety of options in varying situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
• Rotating on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year depending on the needs of the business (shift adjustments from time to time).
• Physical Work Requirements/Conditions: Lifting up to 80 lbs, working from heights, frequently climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead. Working in adverse conditions (i.e., extreme cold, extreme hot). Climbing a ladder with a 300 lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs. Climbing a ladder up to 30 feet. Being able to sit and type for long periods of time.
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and own reliable transportation.
• Please note this is a site-based role and the client requires vaccinations for on-site attendance, if you are offered the role- you will be expected to comply.
