Assistant Production Manager - 3rd Shift

The Opportunity
The Assistant Production Manager is a key manufacturing leader responsible for overseeing daily production operations, developing employees, and driving safety, quality, and operational performance. Working cross-functionally with Warehouse, Quality, Planning, Purchasing, and other plant functions, this role ensures products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and on time while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and a culture of accountability and excellence.
Required Shift: 6:30pm - 3:30am M-F
Essential Functions
  • Promote a behavior based safety culture with a goal of creating a zero risk workplace
  • Responsible for promoting continuous improvement while utilizing our GPS process and principles to drive a zero loss environment
  • Maintain high quality standards and zero error tolerance by adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Member of the HACCP team and participates in food safety meetings
  • Food safety responsibilities include following designations; receiving, storing, and allergen control procedures. In addition, he or she will act as the Sanitation Supervisor and must be knowledgeable of and trained on all housekeeping and sanitation SOP's
  • Responsible for developing production budget and monitoring variance to budget
  • Responsible for proper document, label and packaging controls from reweighs through packaging
  • Minimize product loss and packaging material waste
  • Create and maintain programs designed towards motivating employees
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of manufacturing department function. Directly manages supervisory and non-supervisory employees.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Establishes production priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and assists in resolving operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Implements standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Ensure after hours response in the event of plant outage and emergencies
  • Provide direction and supervision to manufacturing staff as they work. Monitoring labor hours verse production, weekly time card approvals, assigning production duties, annual review and identifying the best people for the job
  • Maintains, stores and retrieves production records and reports
  • Coordinate effective onboarding and training for new manufacturing team members
  • Council, coach and or discipline personnel as needed
  • Hire, train, evaluate, resolve personnel grievances and discharge staff in coordination with human resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience
  • Experience in food, nutrition, supplement, pharmaceutical, or related regulated manufacturing environments
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing production teams
  • Strong understanding of safety, quality, and continuous improvement principles
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, or a related field
  • Experience with HACCP, GMP, or sanitation programs
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office applications
