Inova Fairfax Hospital is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Psychiatry Unit on the day shift. This is a full-time position with a 3 x 12-hour shift schedule (7:00 am to 7:30 pm). We welcome acute care Registered Nurses who are enthusiastic about working with the psychiatric patient population and are eager to make a positive impact in this specialty.

The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Determines processes for delivery of care from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration.

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs biopsychosocial assessments on patients 
• Provides medications and treatments to patients     
• Serves as a resource for patients and families regarding medical questions 
• Develops plan of care
• Works with the interdisciplinary team to assist adult patient to meet treatment goals 
• Reports to the Clinical Director 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification - Basic Life Support through American Heart Association
• Licensure - Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license 
• Experience - 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse
• Education - Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous psychiatric nursing experience strongly preferred
• Previous medical nursing experience in an acute care setting with an adult patient population strongly preferred
