Wieland is hiring a Role Title. The Plug & Die Tech will be responsible for the setup, programming, and operation of CNC and manual grinding equipment used to manufacture precision plugs, dies, and related tooling required for copper tube drawing operations. This role is located in Pine Hall and will be fully on-site. 

Starting Pay: $20.40 an hour

Schedule: 2nd Shift: 3pm -11:30pm, Mon-Fri

Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly


Plug & Die Tech Responsibilities:

Role Purpose

The P&D Tooling Technician is responsible for the setup, programming, and operation of CNC and manual grinding equipment used to manufacture precision plugs, dies, and related tooling required for copper tube drawing operations.

This role supports the production process by ensuring tooling is manufactured, maintained, and repaired to precise dimensional and surface specifications. The technician works from engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation to produce highprecision tooling used in drawing operations.

The position requires strong machining skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to perform precision grinding operations while maintaining strict tolerances and quality standards.

Leadership

Works under the supervision of the P&D Tooling Supervisor and supports the overall toolroom operations through precision machining, tooling maintenance, and collaboration with engineering and production teams.

Core Accountabilities

      1. Safety & compliance
        1. Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
        2. Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) required for machining operations.
        3. Safely handle cleaning chemicals, lubricants, and machining fluids.
      2. CNC grinding & machining operations
        1. Set up, program, and operate CNC grinding equipment including die grinders and plug grinders.
        2. Set machine controls and parameters to regulate machining operations and maintain required tolerances.
        3. Retrieve, input, or edit CNC programs as necessary to produce tooling components
        4. Perform precision grinding operations to manufacture plugs, dies, and related tooling.
      3. Tooling fabrication & repair
        1. Set machine controls and parameters to regulate machining operations and maintain required tolerances.
        2. Retrieve, input, or edit CNC programs as necessary to produce tooling components.
        3. Perform precision grinding operations to manufacture plugs, dies, and related tooling.
      4. Blueprint interpretation & machine planning
        1. Set machine controls and parameters to regulate machining operations and maintain required tolerances.
        2. Retrieve, input, or edit CNC programs as necessary to produce tooling components.

      5. Measurement & quality verification

Plug & Die Tech Qualifications:

      1. High school diploma or GED required.
      2. Vocational training in machining, toolmaking, or related field preferred.
      3. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes.
      4. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
      5. Proficiency with precision measuring tools and shop mathematics.
      6. Strong attention to detail and ability to work within tight tolerances.
      7. Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with engineering and production teams.

Preferred:

      1. Experience operating CNC grinding machines or similar precision machining equipment.
      2. Experience in tooling manufacturing for tube drawing or metal forming processes.
      3. Familiarity with CNC programming and machine parameter optimization.
      4. Experience in manufacturing environments supporting continuous production operations
