PARC Academic Support Coach

George Walton Academy (GWA) provides challenging instruction, engaging experiences, and global perspectives designed to inspire lives of intellectual curiosity, integrity, and purpose. GWA is an independent, Pre-K-12, independent, college-preparatory school located on 61 beautiful acres in Monroe, Georgia, less than one hour from the state capitol of Atlanta.

At George Walton Academy, the Place for Academic Reinforcement and Coaching (PARC) is a student-centered program that is dedicated to creating independent learners for lifelong academic success. The PARC was designed to extend educational and support services to K4 - twelfth grade students.

George Walton Academy seeks a Middle School PARC Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. Reporting to the Director of the PARC, the Coach will work closely with the PARC staff and students, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to set our students up for success.

Position Overview

The PARC Academic Support Coach works directly with middle school students to develop academic skills, study strategies, and learning habits that promote success. This position bridges the gap between subject-matter teaching and personalized student support, focusing on building core academic competencies and student self-efficacy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide small group academic coaching to middle school students
  • Develop individualized learning plans based on student needs and learning styles
  • Teach effective study skills, time management, and organizational strategies
  • Monitor student progress and adjust support strategies accordingly
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align support with curriculum goals
  • Assist students with goal setting and accountability systems
  • Work with students to develop self-advocacy and communication skills
  • Support students with executive functioning challenges
  • Maintain detailed records of student meetings and progress
  • Communicate regularly with families and faculty
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, or related field (Candidates with a Master's Degree are preferred)
  • Three or more years experience teaching middle school math and science
  • Three or more years experience working with students in an academic support setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to connect with and motivate diverse student populations
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Exceptional candidates will have experience teaching and developing skills related to executive functioning
  • Knowledge of diverse learning styles and evidence-based learning strategies
