Responsibilities
Supervises and mentors Software Engineers and cross-functional team of colleagues in specific tasks or projects, fostering their professional growth and ensuring adherence to best practices
Provides mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
Leads the entire lifecycle of software applications and systems, ensuring high-quality delivery from inception to deployment
Directs the technical aspects of projects, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability
Reviews code for accuracy, quality, and adherence to best practices, offering constructive feedback
Establishes and enforces coding standards, development methodologies, and best practices within the team
Identifies and resolves performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal application performance
Facilitates collaboration with cross-functional teams to support changes and implementations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives
Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives
Leads integration of AI-assisted development capabilities across the software development lifecycle and evaluates AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity and outcomes
Establishes best practices for AI-assisted software development within the team, including prompt design, output validation, testing approaches, governance expectations, and appropriate human accountability over outputs
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferred
Knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, NoSQL, and relational databases
Knowledge of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)
Advanced knowledge of AI-assisted development practices, prompt design techniques, output validation approaches, and governance considerations associated with AI-enabled software development
Knowledge of evaluating AI tools for enterprise environments
Software engineering and development experience or a related job
Expertise in application design, software development, and automated testing
Experience in object-oriented design and coding with variety of languages
Experience in distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
Experience in Agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user stories
Experience in automation testing and documentation (i.e. automated, functional, and performance)
Experience scaling AI-enabled development practices across teams
Experience evaluating, selecting, and implementing AI-assisted development tools, including establishing validation, testing, security review, and governance practices for AI-generated outputs
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
