What does an interviewer do?

An interviewer is responsible for conducting interviews with candidates to assess their qualifications, skills, and suitability for a particular role or program. They prepare questions, evaluate responses, and often document their impressions to help inform hiring or selection decisions. Interviewers may work in various settings, such as human resources, journalism, or research, and must possess good communication and analytical skills. Their role is crucial in ensuring that the best candidates are selected according to the organization's or institution's requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an interviewer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Interviewer, you need strong communication skills, keen observational abilities, and a background in human resources or journalism is often preferred. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), video conferencing platforms, and structured interview methodologies is typically required. Active listening, impartiality, and the ability to build rapport are essential soft skills that set outstanding Interviewers apart. These competencies ensure effective candidate evaluation, a positive interview experience, and informed hiring decisions.

What are some common challenges the interviewer faces when conducting interviews, and how can they be addressed?

The Interviewer often encounters challenges such as managing candidate nervousness, ensuring unbiased assessments, and staying on schedule with multiple interviews. To address these, it's important to create a welcoming environment, use a structured set of questions to minimize bias, and develop strong time management skills.
