Job description

THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY
Local Title: NURSE, SUB SCHOOL (LPN)
State Title: Nurse, LPN
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To provide nursing support and assistance in accordance with the Florida Nursing Practice Act and District School Health Services Plan for students and faculty to students in the clinic or assigned classroom(s).
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or approved equivalency diploma.
  2. Graduation from a nursing program.
  3. Current active LPN license in Florida.
  4. Current CPR/AED certification (Adult and pediatric)
  5. Current First Aide certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of laws, rules, policies and procedures related to assignment. Knowledge of medical procedures required by the assignment. Ability to work well with students, teachers, parents, and school staff. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Specialist, Health Services, or assigned administrator
SUPERVISES:
N/A
CLINIC-BASED LPNS' PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide services, within the scope of licensure, to meet the medical needs of identified students, including but not limited to suctioning, gastrointestinal tube feeding, nebulizer treatments, and other medical needs.
  2. Administer authorized medications in accordance with state law and School Board policies.
  3. Chart and record administration of medications.
  4. Provide care to sick and/or injured students and employees.
  5. Utilize electronic medical records and student information system to record and manage student health records.
  6. Assist registered nurse with immunization record review and data collection
  7. Participate in health screenings and health promotion activities as assigned.
  8. Provide information and referral to community agencies for any person as directed.
  9. Notify Public Health Unit and Health Services Specialist of reportable communicable disease when verified.
  10. Follow OSHA and communicable disease guidelines
  11. Order health supplies with approval.
  12. Attend school staff and school health meetings.
  13. Attend assigned inservice training sessions.
  14. Consult with the Registered Nurse as necessary or appropriate.
  15. Manage or assist in managing emergency health needs.
  16. Ensure adherence to good safety standards.
  17. Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  18. Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  19. Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  20. Represent the school and district in a positive and professional manner.
  21. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  22. Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, staff, administration, and vendors across all mediums, including in-person, phone, and email
  23. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  24. Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  25. Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
  26. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

CLASSROOM-BASED LPNS' PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assigned workstation will be a specific classroom(s).
  2. Complete duties described above appropriate to assigned classroom.
  3. Assist students with hygiene needs, such as toileting, changing diapers, cleanliness, and grooming.
  4. Assist students, as needed, by lifting, transferring, and/or positioning medically complex ESE students to facilitate educational activities and good health.
  5. Assist students with daily living activities and encourage self-management.
  6. Assist the classroom teacher as directed or appropriate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
This position requires the ability to move quickly- including frequent walking and, when necessary, running-to respond promptly to emergencies
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
