Job description

General Manager
The Front Climbing Club | Salt Lake City & South Main
Lead the Gym That's Shaping Utah's Climbing Community
The Front Climbing Club is looking for a General Manager ready to take ownership of our gym's long-term success. If you're a strategic operator who thrives on big-picture planning, capital projects, and building strong teams, this is where your leadership makes a lasting impact.
About The Front
The Front Climbing Club has been at the heart of Utah's climbing scene since the 1980s, growing from the state's first indoor climbing gym into a multi-location destination for climbers of every level. We're driven by a mission to create innovative spaces that maximize the climbing experience, inspire meaningful connections, and foster an engaged community. Every role here supports that mission - this one shapes it.
About the Role
As General Manager, you'll oversee the strategic direction, standards, and long-term success of our Salt Lake City and South Main locations. While our Gym Managers run daily operations, you'll own the bigger picture - capital investments, renovations, program launches, and the roadmap that guides our gym's future. This is a full-time, exempt position offering $80,000-$90,000 DOE.
What You'll Do
  • Hold overall responsibility for gym performance, standards, and long-term success - stepping in to cover the floor or front desk when needed
  • Partner with Gym Managers and department heads across Facilities, Cafes, and Risk Management to uphold consistency and standards gym-wide
  • Own long-term scheduling, facility planning, and operational decision-making
  • Lead renovations, amenity rollouts, and program launches from concept to completion
  • Participate in biannual and yearly planning with the CEO and Leadership Team on budgets, timelines, and capital projects
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination with partners like Vertical Solutions and Testpiece
  • Provide direction, feedback, and performance evaluations for Gym Managers and Assistant Gym Managers
  • Act as the escalation point for management-level member concerns and complex issues
  • Collaborate with HR and senior leadership on workforce planning, hiring, and retention for management roles
  • Contribute to strategic planning that supports the gym's continued growth
What You Bring
You might be a great fit if you have:
  • Five or more years of professional experience, including at least four years in people management - ideally in a gym, fitness, or hospitality setting
  • A track record of leading capital projects, renovations, or program launches, along with budget and capex planning experience
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with 10+ years in a supervisory or management role preferred
  • Exceptional member service and conflict-resolution instincts, with the discretion to navigate sensitive, high-visibility situations
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR, CWI Instructor, Utah Alcohol, and Utah Food Handlers certifications upon hire
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Outlook); familiarity with Rock Gym Pro and AI tools is a plus
  • A collaborative, cross-functional approach to solving problems and improving the member experience
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required
Perks & Benefits
  • Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD, LTD, and Accident insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off
  • Free gym membership
  • Discounts on food and merchandise
