Description
Love sports and people? As a Gym & Recreation Attendant, you'll help create a safe, welcoming environment for members of the City's Recreation Facility.
You'll supervise activities, assist members, enforce facility rules, set up equipment, monitor safety, and help keep the gym running smoothly. You'll also support for daily operations, inspections, and closing procedures.

This position is based at the City of Goose Creek Recreation Complex, located at 519 N Goose Creek Blvd, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
This is a permanent, part-time position and is not a seasonal role.
Schedule: Nights and weekends (Monday-Sunday)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supervise open play activities, including basketball and volleyball, as well as gym rentals to ensure a safe and positive environment
  • Supervise and facilitate use of the indoor climbing wall.
  • Enforce facility rules and policies consistently and professionally
  • Check membership cards
  • Respond promptly to member questions, concerns, and requests for assistance
  • Assist the Fitness Manager and Athletics staff with daily operations as needed
  • Set up and break down equipment, including adjusting basketball goal heights and installing/removing volleyball nets
  • Conduct routine inspections of gym areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper equipment condition
  • Perform closing procedures at the end of operating hours, ensuring the facility is secure and ready for the next day
  • Report incidents, maintenance issues, or safety concerns to appropriate staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Experience in the fitness or athletics field, preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills, required.
  • Successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required, within 90 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of basic gym operations including basketball and volleyball equipment setup, preferred.
  • Ability to provide quality, courteous customer service, to include handling difficult customers.
  • Ability to enforce rules and policies in a firm, fair, and professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform CPR and provide basic first aid.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in an office environment and outdoors. Occasional
exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Seasonal exposure to
extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, and respiratory hazards (e.g., dust, dirt, etc.).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Constantly requires hearing, vision, talking, and fine dexterity. Frequently requires
handling/grasping, sitting, standing, and walking/running. Occasionally requires carrying,
lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, twisting, and bending. Medium strength demands
include exerting up to up to 20 pounds frequently and 20-50 pounds occasionally.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Frequently requires time pressures, frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks
simultaneously, irregular schedule/overtime, and working closely with others as part of a
team. Occasionally requires tedious or exacting work and noisy/distracting environment.
