Job Summary: The Fitter is responsible for the layout, fit, and fabrication of metal components to assemble built-up members, fabrication of structural I-beams, fabricated cold form (thin gauge material), and plate steel. The Fitter will utilize hand tools and welding equipment while following shop details specifications. Whirlwind’s goal is to provide fabricated structures for families, congregations, and businesses, in the most efficient manner while maintaining a safe work environment. The role of the Fitter is crucial to the overall manufacturing process of our products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints or other specifications to determine the scope of the work and the materials required.
  • Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, overhead cranes, pins, wedges, and hammers.
  • Measure and mark materials to specifications per blueprints.
  • Identify parts for assembly in the proper order.
  • Cut and wash materials with torches (Oxy Fuel or Plasma) according to specifications.
  • Tack Weld pieces together as needed.
  • Remove rust, mill scale, and foreign objects using grinder with wire wheel or wire brush to ensure proper cleaning of parts.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, safety standards, and company policies at all times.
  • Must be able to meet or exceed daily production goals.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in metal fabrication, fitting, or welding.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods of time.
