Museum of Natural Curiosity Explorer Job Description

Wage: $11-12/hour

Shift: AM availability required, 8:40am-3:30pm. Part time (15 hours per week). Mon-Sat. Includes some holidays.

Summary: As an Explorer at Thanksgiving Point, you will play a key role in creating a world class experience for our guests! You will welcome, guide, and engage our guest’s curiosity as they explore the Rainforest, Kidopolis, Water Works, Discovery Garden, and more! You will gain valuable experience and essential skills in customer service, retail, STEM, guest management, and programming. As you facilitate learning experiences, you will find increased compassion, curiosity, and confidence in yourself. Responsibilities:

  • Interact with and engage visitors of all ages to ignite transformative family learning, guide exploration, and encourage critical thinking.
  • Provide exceptional guest service by monitoring and assisting guests with confidence.
  • Run cashier at the front desk and gift shop.
  • Facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences with curiosity.
  • Collaborate with coworkers.
  • Help maintain an orderly, safe, clean, and compassionate environment for our team and guests.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Thanksgiving Point venues and activities and communicate these effectively to our guests.
  • Model curiosity to create positive, meaningful experiences and a place where multiple ideas are valued and explored.
  • Evaluate visitor experiences using appropriate tools and methodologies.
  • Assist guests as they explore endless options for curious minds of all ages.
  • Accept and include all guests as they are and welcome them without expectation or judgment.
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations as necessary to assure safety for all guests and team members.
  • Exemplify Thanksgiving Point’s mission, values, and policies with compassion, curiosity and confidence.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and great customer service, with collaborative approach to the workplace, and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work patiently in high-activity, high-energy, noisy environments.
  • Readily learn cash register, money handling, and facilitation best practices and skills.
  • Comfort with initiating conversation with our guests including enforcing safety procedures with compassion, confidence, and curiosity.
  • Physical demands may include lifting 25 lbs., climbing stairs, bending, standing for extended periods of time, and manipulating small objects.
  • Comfortable working around and with reptiles and large crowds.
  • At least 16 years old.
  • Must pass a background check.
