Job description

Pediatric Neuropathologist

The Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at our organization is on the lookout for a Pediatric Neuropathologist to become part of a rapidly growing team of 18 faculty members within a well-regarded pediatric healthcare system. The ideal candidate will bring specialized knowledge in pediatric neuropathology and will play a vital role in a collaborative academic and clinical setting focused on enhancing pediatric patient care, education, and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a clinical attending in pediatric neuropathology, contributing to a dynamic pathology service that assesses over 200 neurological cases and nearly 500 neuropathology specimens each year.
  • Interpret pediatric central nervous system tumors, neuromuscular pathology specimens, epilepsy-related resections, and other intricate neuropathological conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with esteemed pediatric neurosciences and neuro-oncology programs, including multidisciplinary initiatives in pediatric brain tumors, epilepsy surgery, neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetics, and developmental neuroscience.

Role Customization

This position offers unique potential for customization based on the candidate's experience and interests. Applicants may choose to concentrate primarily on pediatric neuropathology or broaden their focus to include adult neuropathology and pediatric surgical pathology. Opportunities abound for teaching, translational and clinical research, biobanking, molecular neuropathology initiatives, program development, and leadership within the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Those with interests in pediatric neuro-oncology, molecular diagnostics, digital pathology, AI-enabled image analysis, or neuroscience-focused translational research will find ample opportunities for collaboration and growth within our organization and the greater Phoenix neuroscience community.

Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree with board certification or eligibility in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology.
  • Completion of fellowship training in Neuropathology is mandatory, with a preference for additional expertise or interest in pediatric neuropathology.
  • Pediatric pathology fellowship training is advantageous but not essential.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Arizona.
  • Strong diagnostic abilities, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the capacity to work effectively with multidisciplinary clinical teams, trainees, and researchers are crucial.
