To thrive as a BioRender Specialist (often called a Scientific Illustrator using BioRender), you need a strong background in biology or life sciences and proficiency in scientific visualization. Expertise in BioRender software, as well as familiarity with other graphic design tools like Adobe Illustrator, is typically required. Strong communication, collaboration, and attention to detail are valuable soft skills, enabling you to accurately convey complex scientific concepts. These skills ensure effective creation of clear, accurate, and visually engaging scientific figures that facilitate research communication.
As a BioRender Specialist, your days often involve collaborating with researchers, scientists, or marketing teams to create visually compelling scientific figures and diagrams. You’ll spend time understanding complex data, developing initial drafts, revising visuals based on feedback, and ensuring each image aligns with publication or branding requirements. The role blends independent design work with regular communication and revisions driven by project goals and client input. This dynamic environment provides a chance to continually expand both your scientific knowledge and creative design skills.
A Biorender job typically involves creating professional scientific illustrations using the BioRender software. Professionals in this role, such as researchers, designers, or science communicators, use BioRender to make clear and accurate visuals for publications, presentations, and grant proposals. The job may require a background in science and design, as well as proficiency with digital illustration tools.

Job Summary
The Matt lab explores the inflammatory impact of psychiatric drugs on patient-derived human immune cells and iPSC-derived myeloid and brain models in the context of HIV infection. The majority of our experiments use high-content imaging to perform high-throughput analysis of large, heterogenous cell populations and molecular targets in response to many distinct stimuli. Administratively, this individual is responsible for a variety of logistical and maintenance tasks as needed to keep lab operations running smoothly. These include but are not limited to ordering supplies, maintaining lab inventory and managing lab instruments. Scientifically, the individual hired for this position will be heavily involved in the isolation, culture and differentiation of immune cells from human blood. This individual will also be responsible for characterizing the cells obtained from each isolation using standard molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, Western blotting and flow cytometry. This individual will also be actively assisting Dr. Matt with specific projects involving HIV infection, high content imaging and analysis, qPCR and Western blotting, and will also help assist other lab members with their specific projects as time permits.
A successful candidate will join the Matt lab in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at Drexel University College of Medicine as a research technician. The ideal candidate will have 1+ years of research experience, be proactive, able to work well with groups, highly organized and willing to learn. This individual must be comfortable being trained to work with HIV in BSL-2+ settings. Individual should be experienced with academic software such as Microsoft Office (Word / Excel / Powerpoint), Lab Archives, Biorender, Prism, Adobe Illustrator, and similar programs as well as with cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques (Western blotting, qPCR, immunofluorescent staining, flow cytometry).
This position is grant-funded; employment is contingent upon the continued availability of those funds.
