Essential Job Duties
Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Foundation Relations, the Associate Director will work in close collaboration with members of the University Advancement team and serve as the primary prospect manager for a portfolio of foundations, corporations and organizations. The Associate Director is responsible for identifying and building relationships with corporations and foundations to secure private funding for university-wide initiatives in accordance with industry best practices in development. The Associate Director also develops, implements and evaluates strategies to conceive, develop, and manage the creation of proposals on behalf of North Carolina State University.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Through strategic identification, qualification, and cultivation manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate partners and implement cultivation/solicitation strategies for each partner.
  • Create mutually beneficial relationships that align with the priorities of the University, are multi-faceted, and can provide annual revenues of six figures or more.
  • Prepare proposals and related materials as needed to secure revenue, with a priority on gift based funding. Develop funding proposals for foundations, corporations, corporate foundations, and organizations, working with appropriate faculty and other academic personnel.
  • Consistently meet individual contact, proposal and fundraising goals including strategy development and newly discovered opportunities; document all development activities in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain strong understanding of the basic research efforts and develop relationships with academic and research leaders. Use this information to match corporate and foundation interests with these research areas in support of university priorities.
  • Represent at university advancement and university-wide events.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two years of professional-level experience in direct solicitation / fundraising or a closely related field (such as sales) are required

Other Required Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of successful fundraising, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation relations
  • Proven relationship builder with the ability to form trusting relationships and work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, volunteers, alumni and colleagues
  • Strong writer with some grant writing experience
  • High attention to detail and processes
  • Excellent listening, communication, interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic team environment
  • Unquestioned integrity
  • Commitment to a collegial and collaborative team approach
  • Self-motivated and driven with an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving
  • Optimism, perseverance and a positive attitude

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education fundraising
  • Previous corporate and foundation fundraising experience
  • Familiarity with NC State University
