Job description

Overview
General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking a full-time Administrative Aide to join our D403 Text Processing team.
The position entails working with a small team of text processors supporting approximately 60 Writers and Editors assigned to develop, update, and issue component and ship system technical manuals. Other tasks include typing correspondence and transmittals, as well as maintaining MS Word templates.
Candidates must be able to adapt as the workload and position requirements change.
Job assignment includes but are not limited to the following:
  • Typing, distributing, filing of correspondence, such as letters to customers, internal memorandums, transmittals, and maintaining electronic and hard copies.
  • Create new or update assigned manuals by incorporating markups via SGML or XML toolsets.
  • Create IETM and complete internal review. Incorporate any corrections as requested.
  • Complete peer review QAs on completed work prior to returning products back to D403 Writing.
  • Communicate with writers and/or editors if necessary.
  • General administrative duties to support to the Technical Services organization.
  • Participation in continuous improvement efforts such as development of desktop guides, checklists, procedures, etc.

The successful candidate will be extremely organized and possess excellent interpersonal skills, team commitment, and the ability to work well with others. Willingness to assist with issues using independent judgment, ingenuity, creativity, and sound decision-making skills are necessary for this role. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Knowledge of correspondence formatting and experience with PC applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are necessary to be successful in this role.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-5 years of administrative experience.
  • Candidate must demonstrate error-free word processing capabilities (45 wpm minimum).
  • Ability to obtain Secret security clearance.

Preferred:
  • Experience with SGML, XML, and HTML.
  • 3-5 years in an administrative role, particularly in a document management environment.
  • Experience with document quality checks or similar tasks that require a high level of accuracy.
