Job Summary

Castalia Systems is seeking a Mid-Level Cartographic Standards Editor to join our team in support of our client's mission. The Cartographic Standards Editor will support the Source Operations Group by delivering a web-based solution for standards-based documents and associated graphics; this is accomplished by adding Data Product Specification (DPS) body text and associated graphical information to the Foundation GEOINT Standards DPS (FGS-DPS) website. This effort provides online transparency to NGA Standards documents and associated graphics.

Roles and Responsibilities

A qualified candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:

  • Edit the style, display, and formatting of Foundation GEOINT (FG) material to convey effective web-based display of FG content and guidance documents.
  • Perform professional, editor-quality formatting of body text for all DPS and SIGs using Microsoft Word, ensuring consistency with NGA editorial and formatting standards.
  • Create, maintain, and update stylesheets using Adobe Illustrator for consistent visual presentation across all DPS and SIG products.
  • Develop professional-quality graphics, symbols, and cartographic elements using Adobe Illustrator, including scale symbol graphics, symbol with text templates, and sample graphics.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive fact sheets using Adobe Illustrator that effectively communicate standards requirements to NSG partners, contractors, and international partners.
  • Develop and maintain color palettes for use in Esri ArcGIS Pro with ArcGIS Defense Mapping Automated Mapping Capability (AMC) plug-in to support cartographic production standards and ensure color consistency across products.
  • Manage and create DPS appendices from Microsoft Access databases, including data extraction, formatting, and integration into final products.
  • Support the transition of data models from NAS/TDS to NGIF, including documentation and graphical representation of schema changes.
  • Utilize Metabase application for generating reports and visualizations that support standards documentation requirements.
  • Add DPS body text to the FGS-DPS website via service-enabled technology.
  • Add DPS supporting graphics to the FGS-DPS website via service-enabled technology.
  • Web-enable various standards-based guidance documents as needed.
  • Maintain and update online standards-based documents and associated graphics in the database, including file naming conventions and quality control.
  • Perform special and ad-hoc assignments related to publishing text body and associated graphics to web services in direct support of Standards Office mission needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of combined experience with some college experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator for creating stylesheets, graphics, symbols, cartographic elements, and fact sheets.
  • Expert -level proficiency in Microsoft Word for professional, editor-quality document formatting, including styles, templates, and complex document structures.
  • Experience creating and managing color palettes for Esri ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Defense Mapping Automated Mapping Capability (AMC) plug-in.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and creating appendices from Microsoft Access databases, including queries and data export.
  • Possess current web-based skills to write efficient and concise HTML for web formatting.
  • Sufficient publishing knowledge to convert documents and graphics to online/web-based solutions.
  • Knowledge of digital text editing and proofreading.
  • Well-versed in grammar, technical writing, and editorial standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of data model transition from NAS/TDS to DGIF/NSGIF and ability to document and visualize schema changes.
  • Familiarity with Metabase application for report generation and data visualization.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Experience with cartographic design principles and map production standards.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and document management.
  • Understanding of web content management systems.
  • Ability to support the Standards Branch using open-source tools to add DPS body text and associated graphics to the FGS-DPS website.
