About TPPF:
The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit research-based think tank in Austin, Texas. Established in 1989, TPPF promotes conservative principles and develops free-market approaches to public policy challenges affecting Texans and all Americans. To achieve its mission, TPPF analyzes complex issues, creates legislative policy solutions, and advocates for those solutions at the Texas Legislature, Congress, and other public forums.
Life at TPPF:
The Foundation offers a unique opportunity to be part of an organization that shapes the future of Texas & beyond through innovative thought leadership. At TPPF, you will have the opportunity to be part of an engaged team whose mission is to create a freer future for all Texans and Americans. We look for individuals who are passionate about advancing conservative public policy and embody servant leadership. With a strong belief in personal responsibility, we trust our people and want to empower them to make the right decisions for the right reasons - this is why it is crucial we bring the right people on board. We value our team and work to cultivate a culture of hard work, entrepreneurship, intellectual curiosity, and collaboration. As a team, we support one another and strive to create an environment in which our team members are inspired to excel, motivated to innovate, and empowered to be servant leaders for the cause of liberty.
The Role:
Description:
The Campaign Director is the strategic glue of each issue area at the Foundation. Structured as "campaigns," the campaign director works lockstep with the policy director who sets the research agenda, driving excellence out of the communications, engagement, fundraising, and research components of the campaign. This person builds and sustains coalition and legislative relationships, and ensures the campaign's communications, content, and events meet a consistently high standard. The role functions as a resource facilitator and coalition builder, keeping the campaign aligned with TPPF's mission and the broader Texas campaign structure through both the legislative session and the interim. This role is only possible with a "find a way or make one" mentality, with success hinging on moving the needle to transform our research-driven policy recommendations into law.
Responsibilities:
- Legislative Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with lawmakers and their staff, serving as the campaign's chief legislative advocate.
- Schedule and follow through on all meetings and asks, maintaining a consistent tempo of communication and proactively offering the Foundation's resources.
- Meet with key committee staff to help shape interim focus, and work with legislative staff and the policy team to establish potential interim charges.
- As appropriate, interface and build relationships with agency staff, and other actors in the policymaking and implementation chain.
- Research Direction & Accountability
- While the policy director is chiefly responsible for research deliverables and setting the research agenda, you must be able to work intimately with the research team to deeply understand public policy issues in health care, and prudent legislative solutions.
- Responsible for holding the team accountable to deliver timely research that informs and substantiates the campaign's policy priorities.
- Track relevant regulatory proceedings and agency dockets, identify opportunities for the campaign to engage, and communicate associated deadlines.
- Partner with the policy team to determine which priorities require legislative action and which are best advanced through regulatory channels.
- Coalition Building
- Create and grow relationships with key coalition partners and collaborate with them on shared legislative goals.
- Sustain alignment and cooperation with partners and supporters in the lead-up to and throughout the legislative session.
- Communications & Content Oversight
- Collaborate with and monitor the communications, podcast, and events functions to hold them to a high standard of quality and output, with all content contributing to overarching campaign goals.
- Partner with the communications team to establish a messaging strategy that advances the mission, including clear expectations for deliverables and frequency.
- Campaign Leadership & Accountability
- Coordinate closely with policy and Foundation leadership to ensure the campaign is fully utilized during session and the interim, and that its priorities are reflected in the Foundation's agenda.
- Maintain accountability with the policy director to keep roles, responsibilities, and expectations current as the campaign evolves and as new expectations are justified.
- Maintain accountability trackers for modeling projects and other key work, coordinate with partner organizations to balance state and federal priorities, and drive efficiency, focus, and cohesion across the policy team.
- Grit, tenacity, and the ability to thrive amidst uncertainty. You will be entrusted to determine the best course of action to accomplish legislative goals amidst innumerable obstacles.
- Demonstrated experience in public policy, government relations, legislative affairs, or campaign management, ideally within Texas politics and policy.
- Preference for a candidate that understands the healthcare market-in Texas and federally-and can distill healthcare policy talking points to lay audiences.
- Established relationships with - or the proven ability to build relationships with - lawmakers, legislative staff, and coalition partners.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to hold multiple teams and workstreams accountable to deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to TPPF's mission and to advancing conservative principles and free-market solutions.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
TPPF values our team members and strives to provide a comprehensive benefits package so that our people can focus on achieving the mission. We offer competitive salaries and excellent health insurance, for staff & dependents. In addition, we have generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policies, including holidays and parental leave, and retirement contribution matching.
