Job description

About this role:

Our engineering team owns the software that makes our marketplace work. We're looking for an experienced leader to help lead teams focused on a core customer experience. Our customers look to Faire to help manage and run their wholesale business across the customer journey, from getting their products listed to marketing their business through promotions or email to processing wholesale orders and managing their fulfillment.

We care about good engineering practices and love to write software that is secure, tested, easy to maintain, and scalable to millions of users. We build minimum viable products, deploy to production multiple times per day, A/B test customer-facing changes, listen to the data, and iterate.

We are deeply committed to accelerating the adoption of AI across our engineering workflow-leveraging it for everything from basic coding assistance and streamlining review processes to informing architectural design and enhancing system monitoring. We are excited about this vision and are seeking Engineering Managers to partner with us in accelerating it, driving AI as a critical enabler for increasing our development velocity and system quality.

What you'll do:
  • Directly manage a cross functional team of engineers.
  • Partner with product management and design on team strategy and roadmapping
  • Champion customer empathy and advocacy by translating deep customer needs into strategic and technical priorities.
  • Lead scoping and sprint planning within your teams
  • Oversee the health and quality of the production system, leveraging automated tools to diagnose and address defects and system issues.
  • Identify and scope infrastructure or tooling changes to impact efficiency and/or quality
  • Champion the adoption of AI-driven tools and processes (e.g., background agents, automated testing, production monitoring) across the engineering organization to accelerate development velocity and quality.
  • Dive into the architecture, designs and code in order to lead your team effectively.
  • Lead contributor and owner of process and team structure decisions.
  • Directly impact our ability to grow quickly while improving operational efficiencies.
Qualifications:
  • A passion for programming and solving problems with code.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • A strong technical background and you are still capable of using it every day.
  • A love for technology, and an insatiable curiosity for new tools to tackle real problems.
  • A track record of leading teams to higher levels of contribution.
  • A track record of assisting team members to achieve higher levels of impact in their careers.
  • Capable and willing to write software for a couple months as part of your onboarding.
  • Still willing and able to get your hands dirty with software design, code creation, tooling, etc.

Bonus/Nice to haves:

  • Postgraduate degree in management or business
  • Strength and experience in running engineering teams using metrics
  • Have lead through other managers
