Job description

Position Scope

NACG are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road) with Service Truck (Partial or Direct Service Provider) to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area. 

This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region.

For this role, NACG offers a combined gross rate of up to $59.45/hour as well as room for growth! 

Where You’ll Be Working

  • Site: Fort Hills
  • Schedule: 14 x 14, 12 hour days (paid for 12 hours). Days/Nights.
  • Accommodations: Camp is provided.
  • Transportation: Flights provided to/from Edmonton or Calgary only. Bussing is provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after rotation).

What You'll Be Doing

  • Complete repairs on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
  • Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
  • Preventative Maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Trouble shooting systems – example: hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
  • Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
  • Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
  • Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
  • Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor Mechanics.
  • Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Other maintenance duties as assigned.

What Makes You The ONE

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman (Journeyperson) certification on large Haul Trucks/Dozers/Graders and Excavators.
  • Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision.

  • Basic knowledge of computer applications.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction
  • A valid Alberta Journeyperson Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Journeyperson) Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off Road).
  • Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
  • Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site an asset

Truck Requirements:

  • Current CVIP and Picker Inspection.
  • Oxygen/acetylene cabinets that meet OH&S requirements.
  • Full complement of tools for repairing Off Road Equipment.
  • $5 million liability insurance

If you are chosen to move forward in our hiring process for a site-based role, you will be asked to provide the following:

  1. Provide a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a recent Driver’s Abstract
  2. Provide a valid CSO
  3. Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness (or Wildlife Awareness including Bear Awareness)
  4. Be subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  5. Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing: 
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
    • Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
    • Audiometric Testing
    • Vision Screening
    • Criminal Record Check

Once dispatched the following processes will occur:

  1. Will receive a call from NACG to set up all required pre-employment testing
  2. An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
  3. After all results and paperwork are received by NACG, candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site-specific details.
