What is a test manager?

A test manager works in a software development and quality assurance setting, managing testing projects and resources to ensure that software works correctly before being released to the public. Your chief responsibilities and duties are to oversee a team of software quality assurance testers throughout the development life cycle, design and implement testing strategies, create reports and analyses of your tests, and present your findings to software developers and management. You are also responsible for hiring new testers, building your team, and helping to mentor and monitor junior testers.

What are some common challenges test managers face when coordinating testing across multiple teams or projects?

Test Managers often navigate challenges such as aligning testing schedules, managing resource constraints, and ensuring consistent quality standards across diverse teams or projects. Effective communication and implementing standardized testing processes are key to overcoming these obstacles. Leveraging strong leadership and collaborative skills helps Test Managers ensure seamless test execution and project delivery.

The Opportunity

When operators rely on Air Force mission‑critical software, they expect seamless performance, reliability, and intuitive workflows. Ensuring that level of quality demands rigorous verification, disciplined test planning, and the ability to understand how software behaves in real operational environments. That’s why we need you — a Test Engineer who knows how to evaluate complex software systems, validate requirements, and help deliver capabilities that directly support mission readiness.

Responsibilities

As a Software Test Engineer on our team, you’ll collaborate with developers, system engineers, and government stakeholders to validate software supporting Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS). You’ll create test strategies and detailed procedures, trace requirements to verification methods, and execute tests that span functional, integration, regression, performance, and mission‑relevant evaluation. You’ll document defects, assess operational impact, and help guide improvements throughout the development lifecycle. Join us as we ensure the reliability and effectiveness of software that keeps air operations safe and mission‑ready.

You Have
  • 8+ years of experience performing software testing, systems validation, or verification activities
  • Experience analyzing and tracing software requirements, defining test methods, and establishing success criteria
  • Experience developing test plans, test cases, and detailed test procedures
  • Experience conducting functional, integration, regression, or performance testing
  • Experience using defect‑tracking tools and communicating findings to development teams
  • Experience with scripting or automation
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, and government test organizations
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or Information Technology field
Nice If You Have
  • Experience with Python preferred
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks or DevSecOps pipelines
  • Experience validating software in systems‑of‑systems or operationally representative environments
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, or mission‑scenario test environments
  • Experience supporting developmental or operational test events
  • Knowledge of Air Force sustainment processes, ATCALS systems, or avionics‑related software
  • Master’s degree in a related technical field
  • Security+, ISTQB, or similar Certification
Clearance

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Ability to obtain a Secret clearance is required.

Compensation

At Booz Allen, we celebrate your contributions, provide you with opportunities and choices, and support your total well‑being. Our offerings include health, life, disability, financial, and retirement benefits, as well as paid leave, professional development, tuition assistance, work‑life programs, and dependent care. Our recognition awards program acknowledges employees for exceptional performance and superior demonstration of our values. Full‑time and part‑time employees working at least 20 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in Booz Allen’s benefit programs. Salary for this position ranges from $99,000.00 to $225,000.00 (annualized USD). This posting will close within 90 days from the posting date.

Commitment to Non‑Discrimination

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to disability, status as a protected veteran or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, local, or international law.
