Work Model: Full-time, On-site - 20%+ Travel Required

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating and performing qualification testing on commercial and military grade rugged electronics. Environmental, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), power, and safety qualification are used to support product development and validation, marketing, sales, and manufacturing initiatives to prove design acceptability and obtain various compliance certifications.

Essential Functions

  • Basic understanding of compliance test standards; conducting and witnessing tests; performing diagnostic procedures; measuring performance; analyzing and evaluating findings; performing forensic analysis of failures; troubleshooting failures; supervising sub-contractors.

  • Attain compliance by isolating and resolving non-compliance issues; recommending product and process changes; initiating engineering change notices

  • Basic understanding and completes compliance reports by collecting and summarizing measurement data and trends

  • Basic assistance for development of test strategies with the Systems team

  • Basic understanding and development of test plans

  • Effective coordination with external laboratories for development of test procedures

  • Basic assistance with engineers and designers through product characterization and testing

  • Basic assistance in product design, development, and production

  • Provide testing input during design and development phase

  • Inspect products and testing processes for flaws and identify areas of improvement

  • Build and set up equipment for testing

  • Prepare and conduct experiments

  • Conduct tests and collect data

  • Calculate or records results during experiments

  • Assist in coordinating with external, 3rd party laboratories for quotation and scheduling

  • Provide oversight for internal testing and external, 3rd party testing

  • Coordinate witnesses for observed testing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems required

  • Familiar with the design and build of wire harnesses and cables

  • Familiar with how cables are routed in a computer-based system

  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration

  • Basic knowledge of compliance and testing industry standards

  • Basic understanding of commonly practiced concepts related to Electrical or Mechanical Engineering theory

  • Current and past industry standards for military, automotive industry, or industrial environments

  • Use of full range instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers

  • Operating large stationary machinery including Thermotron's, vibe tables, or EMC antenna arrays

  • Multitask to meet several simultaneous project milestones up to and including completion of several projects

  • Build, troubleshoot, and debug computer-based systems including network switches, firewalls, rack mounted monitors KVMs, or rack mounted UPS

  • Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (Altium Designer, AutoDesk inventor, AutoCAD, LT SPICE)

  • Read and compare technical data sheets

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person")

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related engineering field or at least 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in lieu of a degree

  • Current valid US driver's license with good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical component building experience

  • 3+ years of CAD software related work

  • Extensive knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)

  • Extensive knowledge of advanced testing equipment (bode plot generators, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, hall-effect probes, etc.)

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
