Job description

Overview

R&P is looking for an experienced mid to senior-level ship systems test and activation engineer who wants to join our team. We are a defense contractor providing Engineering, Logistics, Program Management and Technical Services to government and commercial maritime clients. The Marine Systems Test & Activation Specialist will oversee the installation, grooming, testing, and validation of Main Propulsion and Auxiliary systems on LHA Class vessels. This role requires technical expertise in New Construction shipyard environments, strong troubleshooting capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with Shipbuilders, Production Teams, and Government Project teams

Responsibilities
  • Execute System Testing: Perform comprehensive, end-to-end inspections, grooming, activation, and testing of assigned shipboard systems.
  • Validate Test Procedures: Review Industrial Test Procedure Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) to ensure technical accuracy against ship specifications and sub-tier references.
  • Monitor Quality Control: Validate testing onboard the vessel on Main Propulsion and Auxiliary systems to ensure compliance with ship specification.
  • Oversee Installations: Monitor the mechanical installation of Main Propulsion and Auxiliary systems in an active New Construction shipyard.
  • Conduct Inspections: Perform routine space surveillance to identify and report technical deficiencies, unusual conditions, and overall test and grooming progress.
  • Troubleshoot & Repair: Diagnose mechanical issues and perform hands-on installations and repairs across hull, mechanical, mission, combat, and weapon systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Establish and maintain highly productive relationships with Government Project teams, Production Teams, and the Shipbuilder.
  • Technical Research: Analyze drawings, technical mnuals, and design specifications to understand system requirements during troubleshooting and testing equipment.
  • Interdisciplinary Support: Partner with engineers, test engineers, and field engineers to resolve complex technical problems on LHA system components.
  • Analyze & Report: Evaluate equipment performance against test requirements, analyze results, identify necessary modifications, and document findings in formal reports.
  • Experience: Proven mechanical background with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and mechanical installations.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of maritime test requirements, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Trial Support: Provide critical technical support during Builders, Acceptance, Final Contract, and Special Trials.
  • Travel: Ability to travel as required to support project milestones and trials.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in pump and foundation alignments are highly preferred
  • Excellent skills in ship system operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Extensive knowledge of shipbuilding processes, mechanical systems, industry regulations, and testing standards.
  • Practical understanding of ship systems; have the ability to groom, test, and activate systems is highly preferred.
  • Must have the ability to read, understand and follow technical documentation such as drawings, technical manuals, test plans, and test procedures.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 25 pounds on your own, transverse steep ladders, vertical hatches, and confined spaces. Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship test, activation, and sea trials.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior service in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Merchant Marines is highly preferred.
  • Must be proficient in full suite of Microsoft Office products and tools.
  • Valid secret DoD security clearance, or the ability to qualify and maintain one.
  • High School diploma or GED plus at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
