Job description

Position Overview:

The Test Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of Qualification Test procedures to meet contractual requirements. This role involves managing the engineering test lab, maintaining test equipment, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal project performance. The individual will also oversee external testing facilities and provide technical oversight into Qualification Test processes. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a technical background and strong organizational skills, looking to contribute to the testing and qualification of advanced electrical and electromechanical systems.


In this function you will:

  • Design and develop Qualification Test Procedures that meet customer and contractual requirements.
  • Oversee and directly participate in the formal execution of Qualification testing.
  • Analyze, summarize, and document Qualification Test results in a reporting format suitable for customer review and approval.
  • Maintain and manage the Engineering test lab area, including calibration certification of test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Plan, schedule, and procure external test resource facilities when necessary.
  • Personally oversee the execution of external tests (e.g., EMI compliance to MIL-STD-461).
  • Review Qualification and Design Engineering Test processes for opportunities to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Develop and standardize qualification test procedure and report templates for future use.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams from project inception to final product delivery, ensuring optimal project performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controls Engineering Manager.

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering and minimum of 3-5 of test-related experience with electrical or electromechanical systems. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Practical experience with MIL SPECs applicable to Qualification Testing, such as MIL-S-901, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-1399-300, Type I.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical schematic capture or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of industry-recognized drafting and electrical CAD standards.
  • Familiarity with industry specifications, including NEMA and UL standards.
  • Experience working with 480 VAC, 3-phase power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail and quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MIL-DTL-2212.
  • Knowledge of power systems and/or industrial automation & controls.
  • Familiarity with Naval and commercial power systems.
  • Experience entering product structure data into ERP systems (e.g., Visual Manufacturing).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D modeling.
  • Basic PLC skills.

Position Criteria:

  • Ability to design and execute Qualification Test procedures in compliance with customer specifications and company policies.
  • Proficient in reviewing and improving test processes for quality and cost efficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple test activities simultaneously.
  • Hands-on personality with a focus on safety and compliance in the test lab and shop floor environments.
  • Familiarity with standard office productivity and EDA tools (e.g., MS Office, schematic capture).

Work Environment:

This position involves approximately 60% of the time spent in a standard office environment and 40% in an engineering test lab or external qualification test facility. Proper safety equipment, including eye protection, must be worn when in the lab or on the shop floor.


Physical Requirements:

The role requires sitting at a desk performing normal office work, including phone communications and computer use. It may also involve standing and walking in office and manufacturing environments. Occasional lifting of equipment and tools may be required.
