Test Development Assistant information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Test Development Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Test Development Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in educational measurement or a related field, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with data analysis tools, test item authoring software, and learning management systems is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills help you collaborate with stakeholders and manage multiple projects efficiently. These skills ensure the accuracy, fairness, and timely delivery of assessment materials essential for educational or certification programs.

What are the main challenges Test Development Assistants face when coordinating with subject matter experts?

Test Development Assistants often work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create accurate and relevant assessment materials. A common challenge is translating complex or technical content provided by SMEs into clear, measurable test items that align with learning objectives and testing standards. Effective communication, attention to detail, and familiarity with assessment frameworks are essential to bridge the gap between subject expertise and test design. Building strong collaborative relationships can help ensure the final assessments are both valid and reliable.

What are Test Development Assistants?

Test Development Assistants are professionals who support the creation, organization, and administration of educational or professional assessments. They typically assist with tasks such as item writing, test formatting, proofreading, and maintaining databases of test questions. Their work ensures that exams are accurate, fair, and effectively measure the intended knowledge or skills. They may also help with data entry, preparing test materials, and coordinating logistics for test administration. Test Development Assistants often work under the supervision of test developers or psychometricians in educational institutions, certification boards, or testing organizations.

Job description

Saronic Technologies is a leader in revolutionizing autonomy at sea, dedicated to developing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance maritime operations through autonomous and intelligent platforms.
Job Overview
Saronic is seeking an Electrical Test Engineer to support the development and execution of electrical test plans across vehicle and subsystem programs. This role is responsible for executing verification activities aligned with the engineering design process, developing and maintaining automated test equipment (ATE), and working cross-functionally to ensure electrical designs are thoroughly validated prior to release.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in electrical validation and test development, and is excited to work in a fast-paced hardware environment supporting complex electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Test Plan Development & Execution
  • Develop and execute structured test plans in accordance with the engineering design process (requirements → design → verification → validation).
  • Translate system and subsystem requirements into test cases and procedures.
  • Perform electrical verification testing at board, subsystem, and system levels.
  • Execute functional, regression, environmental, and reliability testing.
  • Document test procedures, results, and deviations clearly and accurately.
  • Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of electrical failures.

Automated Test Equipment (ATE) Development
  • Assist in the design, build, and maintenance of automated test equipment for PCBAs, harnesses, power systems, and integrated assemblies.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Integrate lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, DAQs, power supplies, loads, etc.) into automated test systems.
  • Design and support development of test fixtures to improve repeatability and efficiency.
  • Contribute to improvements in test automation, data collection, and reporting.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, firmware, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are testable and properly validated.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input on testability and verification coverage.
  • Collaborate with technicians to execute testing and refine procedures.
  • Support the transition of engineering validation tests into production environments when needed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and validation of fielded hardware.

Process & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain accurate and organized test documentation and version control.
  • Contribute to lab infrastructure improvements and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement of test methodologies and data analysis approaches.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience in electrical test engineering, hardware validation, or related role.
  • Working knowledge of the engineering design lifecycle and verification processes.
  • Experience using electrical lab instrumentation and measurement techniques.
  • Experience developing or maintaining automated test scripts (Python, LabVIEW, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across analog, digital, and power electronics systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in robotics, autonomous systems, defense, maritime, or ruggedized hardware.
  • Familiarity with power systems, battery systems, or embedded hardware.
  • Exposure to manufacturing test or DFM/DFT principles.
  • Experience with requirements traceability and structured test documentation.
  • Experience working in fast-paced product development environments.
