What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

For a Test Assistant, earning $4,000 a week without a degree is uncommon, as most roles in testing or quality assurance typically pay less. High-paying jobs that do not require a degree often include sales, real estate, or certain skilled trades, but these usually involve experience or certifications rather than formal education. Achieving such income levels generally requires specialized skills, certifications, or entrepreneurial efforts.

How to become a test technician?

To become a test technician, typically one needs a high school diploma or equivalent, along with technical training or an associate degree in electronics, engineering, or a related field. Relevant skills include knowledge of testing procedures, troubleshooting, and familiarity with testing tools and equipment; certifications such as IPC or ISTQB can enhance job prospects. On-the-job training is common, and attention to detail and problem-solving skills are important in this role.

Job Title: Test Technician

Job Description

The Test Technician plans, builds, conducts, and monitors standard and complex tests to support the development and validation of advanced automated systems and components. This role focuses on creating and improving automated endurance tests, assembling and maintaining test fixtures, and accurately documenting results to enhance test processes and overall product quality. The position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in autonomous cleaning equipment and highly automated test environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, build, conduct, and monitor standard and complex tests for systems and components, including automated accelerated endurance tests.
  • Assist in the design, assembly, repair, and improvement of new and existing automated test fixtures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed test records to support continuous improvement of test processes and test quality.
  • Monitor active tests for signs of failure, anomalies, or performance issues and take appropriate action when problems arise.
  • Install and apply instrumentation such as strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, flow sensors, load cells, and other measurement devices.
  • Document test procedures, observations, and results thoroughly and communicate findings clearly to Test Engineers and test requestors.
  • Use basic statistical and graphical methods to summarize test results and present data in a clear and understandable format.
  • Support test setup and execution for a high volume of active tests, including approximately 50 concurrent test activities.
  • Participate in systems, software, mechanical, assembly, electrical, hydraulic, battery, engine, and autonomous machine testing as needed.
  • Assist in building prototypes and supporting simulation systems used for testing and validation.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of test methods and test development activities in a product development environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the broader testing departments to support long-term testing initiatives and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience working in testing or related work in automotive, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, shown through prior work experience or hands-on hobbies.
  • Experience installing and monitoring strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, flow sensors, load cells, and other instrumentation.
  • Ability to plan, build, and monitor standard and complex tests for systems and components.
  • Ability to assist with design, assembly, repair, and improvement of automated test fixtures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate test records and documentation.
  • Capability to monitor active tests and identify signs of failure or problems promptly.
  • Basic proficiency with statistical and graphical methods to summarize and present test results.
  • Positive attitude, strong willingness to learn, and solid work ethic.
  • Comfort working with mechanical, electrical, and mechatronic systems in an industrial or test environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate of Science degree in a technical or related engineering field is preferred but not required.
  • Any prior test experience in a product development environment is preferred.
  • Experience with HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing) chambers is highly desired.
  • Experience or interest in mechatronics, industrial equipment, and test development.
  • Experience with systems, software testing, mechanical testing, assembly testing, and validation of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, battery, engine, and autonomous systems.
  • Interest in working with high levels of automation and advanced simulation systems.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively share test results and collaborate with engineers and test requestors.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to thrive in a highly technical, fast-evolving environment.

Work Environment

This role is a first-shift position with flexibility in scheduling, allowing alignment with the core test team that works from early to late in the day. You will support test setup and execution for a large number of active tests, including approximately 50 tests running concurrently, in a dynamic and highly automated test lab. The environment centers on cutting-edge technology in autonomous cleaning equipment and scrubbers, with extensive use of automation, simulation systems, and advanced instrumentation. You will work closely with multiple testing departments and have exposure to systems, software, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic testing, as well as prototype builds and validation activities.
