A Plastic Injection Maintenance Technician ensures the continuous, efficient operation of injection molding machines, robots, and auxiliary equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Key responsibilities include repairing hydraulic/pneumatic systems, installing/removing molds, and optimizing machine parameters to meet quality standards.

 

Job location: Onsite - Grand Rapids, MI  

Work schedule: 3rd Shift

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and maintenance on injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment (dryers, grinders), and robots.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to minimize downtime.
  • Equipment Set-Up: Install, remove, and adjust equipment, and set machine parameters per production requirements.
  • Quality & Process Control: Monitor machine operations to ensure production quality, troubleshoot defects, and adjust settings as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of maintenance actions, machine repairs, and downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols (lockout/tagout) and OSHA regulations

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or degree preferred.

Experience: Proven experience in industrial maintenance and troubleshooting. Plastic injection molding experience preferred.

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.

Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and work orders.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, work with tools, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (blueprints, schematics, specifications).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to equipment reliability and process improvement.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to train and mentor less experienced technicians.
  • Computer proficiency and strong communication skills.
