Job description
The Department of Radiology of the University of Minnesota Medical School is seeking a Division Director for Thoraco-Abdominal Imaging at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (full-time, academic track).
Minimum requirements are an MD or equivalent degree, eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota, board certified or board eligible status, completion of ACGME accredited radiology training and Body fellowship.
A key member of the Departments leadership team, this position may come with protected academic time commensurate with scholarly productivity, faculty mentorship and impactful peer-reviewed publications.

- Strong clinical background with demonstrated excellence in teaching and clinical excellence in thoraco-abdominal imaging
- Preferred proven record of funded research, including clinical trials as well as high-impact peer-reviewed publications
Role Description
- Develop goals and objectives for the Thoraco-Abdominal Imaging Division
- Lead recruitment of academic radiologists for the Division
- Work with faculty to advance the missions of the Department and grow internal and external collaborations
- Mentor and develop faculty in education, research and clinical care, increasing academic productivity and fostering progress toward promotion
- Monitor and ensure success of fellowship program; oversee resident and medical student education within Thoraco-Abdominal Imaging. Teaching residents and fellows is an important part of the role.
- Partner with health system staff to ensure optimization of the clinical practice including quality, standardization, peer review, productivity, performance improvement and clinical scheduling
- Ensure satisfaction of referring physicians and service lines, oversee multi-disciplinary care conferences
- Develop research links to the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) with the goal of translating new techniques into our clinical/research programs
- Perform clinical duties as a member of the Body Imaging Section and share in call responsibilities.
The Department of Radiology
The University of Minnesota Department of Radiology is at the forefront of imaging in a region known for some of the nations best health care. Faculty are engaged and focused on providing high quality clinical care and practice in an environment that values education, quality-improvement, and encourages a wide variety of academic pursuits. The Department of Radiology has 40 academic radiologists and 26 MR research faculty, and is #19 in Blue Ridge NIH ranking. The Department has several highly regarded ACGME education programs with over 45 residents and 10 fellows. The Department leads the practice of radiology across MHealth Fairview, a large academic and community health system in the Twin Cities Metro Area comprised of 10 hospitals and over 70 ambulatory clinics. The Thoraco-Abdominal Division
The Thoraco-Abdominal Division has 10 core academic radiology faculty, two fellows and more than 50 community radiologists. The Division participates in 12 interdisciplinary care conferences.
Center for Magnetic Resonance Research CMRR
As a key part of the Department of Radiology, the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research is an internationally renowned center for ultrahigh field MRI (7 Tesla and above) with some of the most advanced MR 3 Tesla and 7 Tesla instrumentation in the world, and one of a kind 10.5 Tesla whole body scanner. CMRR focuses on development of unique magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy methodologies and instrumentation for the acquisition of structural, functional, and biochemical information non-invasively in humans, and utilizing this capability to investigate organ function in health and disease.
CMRR focuses on the significant advantages of extracting biomedical information using high and ultrahigh magnetic fields, and developing methodological and engineering solutions to challenges encountered by working at high frequencies in the human body, including the abdomen, corresponding to such high field strengths.
CMRR engages unique expertise in imaging physics, engineering, and signal processing, amplifying the contributions of each of these groups of scientists to conduct basic and clinical biomedical research.

This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
