Job description

What to Expect Tesla is seeking a skilled Electrical and Instrumentation Designer who can take designs from concept to construction deliverable by utilizing Autodesk Revit software. The ideal candidate will have experience in 3D modeling as well as 2D construction deliverable creation for Electrical and Instrumentation designs in heavy industrial, manufacturing or both. This candidate should also demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and pride in their work. This role requires excellent collaboration/communication skills to work effectively with engineers, other engineering discipline designers, and maintenance, construction and operations teams.
What You'll Do
  • Perform design and 3D modeling in Revit for electrical and controls teams including modeling cable tray/busway, instrumentation, motors, switchgear, enclosures, light fixtures, conduit and electrical buildings
  • Develop and draft detailed 2D construction drawings in Revit or AutoCAD including cable tray/busway installation plans, power plan layouts, grounding plans, motor schematics, lighting plans, panel layout and wiring diagrams, panelboard schedules, instrument location plans, Instrument loop diagrams
  • Manage electrical/instrumentation models and/or CAD files in BIM360/ACC
  • Perform clash detection resolution - identify model conflicts between design engineering, third party and owner model for the controls and electrical discipline and work with modeling teams to resolve
  • Interface and collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines, including understanding 3D coordination with those disciplines
  • Interface with construction trades and perform regular field walks to review installation progress and adherence to model

  • Familiarity with P&IDs, industrial or manufacturing instrumentation (temperature, flow, level, pressure)
  • Working knowledge of NEC to create designs in compliance with national codes
  • Detailed design engineering process in the development of a manufacturing and/or process plant
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate electrical and instrumentation designs with other project disciplines including process, civil/structural and piping
