Job description

Our Company

At Teradata, we believe that people thrive when empowered with better information. Teradata Autonomous Knowledge Platform activates enterprise intelligence by unifying data, knowledge and business context to achieve tangible outcomes. With Teradata, organizations can provide agents with full context for impact when it matters. Our solution lets businesses connect and scale on premises, in the cloud, or through a hybrid approach. Teradata delivers real business value with AI.

What You’ll Do

Teradata is building an enterprise AI program at scale. Claude Enterprise and Microsoft Copilot are in active deployment across the company — and as Customer Zero for our own products, we run the Teradata Autonomous Knowledge Platform and AI Studio internally, proving the platform on ourselves before it reaches customers. The infrastructure that governs how all of these tools operate — intake pipelines, compliance monitoring, adoption analytics, and the agentic workflows that automate governance itself — needs to be engineered, not just managed.

As Senior Manager, AI Governance Technology (IC), you are Teradata's recognized internal expert on enterprise AI governance infrastructure. That means owning the technical architecture, driving the most complex engineering decisions, and setting the standards and specifications that others build against — not just executing tasks, but defining how the work gets done. You are the go‑to person for governance technology across the company, working with significant autonomy and guiding less experienced colleagues through the hardest problems.

Done right, governance is invisible to the people it protects — intake that feels like a product, approvals that move at the speed of the work, and tools that are safe by default. You will define the technical standards for that experience, anticipate internal and external business challenges before they surface, and recommend process and product improvements that shape how the entire function operates.

AI governance architecture & technical leadership:

  • Own the end-to-end technical architecture of Teradata's AI Governance Operating System — defining the standards and specifications for intake pipelines, tool evaluation workflows, and compliance monitoring automation that the broader team builds against

  • Lead the engineering of sophisticated agentic workflows (using n8n, Claude APIs, or similar) that automate governance at scale — solving the most complex design challenges in intake triage, policy enforcement, anomaly detection, and audit logging, and advising colleagues on implementation

  • Architect and own the AI tool registry — defining the data model, integration strategy, and automation logic that keeps it authoritative across all tools, and serving as the technical resource for anyone extending it

  • Design and deliver sophisticated real-time monitoring and alerting systems — anticipating vendor, regulatory, and business challenges before they become incidents, and recommending process and product improvements based on what the data surfaces

  • Define the technical standards and specifications for all intake, provisioning, and approval flows — engineering experiences that employees move through in minutes, and guiding others in implementing against those standards

Platform expertise & enterprise integration

  • Serve as one of the company's deepest technical resources on Claude Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, and Teradata AI Studio — owning the most complex integration and extension work, and setting the specifications around which governance use cases are built

  • Own the MCP server integration architecture — solving the most technically complex integration problems between the governance framework and the broader Teradata AI stack, and serving as the internal expert others consult

  • Define the authoritative technical configuration standards for AI tool provisioning — ensuring access controls, data handling requirements, and usage policies are enforced at the platform level across all tools, and advising on the most complex or ambiguous cases

  • Lead technical evaluation of new AI tools — applying in-depth knowledge to assess tools against governance criteria, anticipating business and regulatory implications, and providing recommendations that shape which tools Teradata adopts and how they are governed

Governance analytics & insights architecture

  • Deliver the technical architecture of the governance analytics infrastructure — designing and delivering the dashboards, data pipelines, and automated scorecards that give Teradata a comprehensive, accurate view of AI adoption quality, compliance, and business impact

  • Architect the automated reporting infrastructure — identifying where existing solutions fall short, developing new approaches where precedents don't exist, and delivering reporting cadences that bring reliable insights to leadership without manual overhead

Technical authority for the enterprise AI experience

  • Lead the technical architecture and integration standards for Teradata's enterprise AI surfaces — Office 365 Copilot, Claude Enterprise, and internal tools — defining how they connect and operate together so employees encounter one coherent, governed experience, and serving as the go‑to expert when that experience breaks down

  • Serve as the senior technical advisor to business function AI Leads and cross‑functional teams — guiding the most complex tool evaluation and integration challenges, and providing the technical standards and configurations that enable successful first‑day deployments

  • Define the technical standards the AI Adoption team deploys against — owning the frameworks and configurations that determine deployment quality, identifying improvements to the handoff process, and advising on the most technically complex rollouts

Why this role, why now

  • Teradata's AI governance infrastructure is being built from scratch — you'd be the recognized technical expert who defines how it's architected, not someone executing someone else's design

  • Deep technical ownership of the full enterprise AI stack: Claude, Copilot, the Teradata Autonomous Knowledge Platform, n8n, MCP — and the authority to define the integration architecture and standards that govern how they operate

  • Individual contributor role with outsized influence — your technical decisions set the standards and specifications the organization builds against, with visibility at the senior leadership level

  • San Diego HQ, with the autonomy to work on the hardest problems and the credibility of being Teradata's internal expert on enterprise AI governance technology

Who You’ll Work With

This role sits within the AI & Data Governance function, reporting to the Sr. Director of AI & Data Governance. As the senior IC technical expert on the governance team, you will act as an advisor and coach to less experienced members, set the technical standards the team builds against, and serve as the go‑to person for the most complex or ambiguous governance engineering challenges. You will work closely with the AI Adoption team, Cyber Security, and the broader Data & AI engineering org — leading large and complex projects and guiding cross‑functional teams through technically difficult work.

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate

  • 5-8 years in technical roles, including significant depth in enterprise platform engineering, AI/ML infrastructure, or governance technology — recognized as a subject matter expert in your field

  • Deep, hands‑on experience designing and delivering enterprise automation at scale — including agentic workflows, API‑based integration platforms, and policy enforcement systems — working independently on the most complex assignments

  • Expert‑level command of enterprise API integration architecture — able to define technical specifications, evaluate complex build versus buy tradeoffs, and solve integration problems that require extensive expertise and a deep understanding of the platforms involved

  • Advanced SQL and data modeling expertise — able to design sophisticated analytical architectures, solve complex performance and governance problems on platforms including Teradata Vantage, and serve as the technical resource others consult

  • Proven ability to solve unique and complex technical problems where existing solutions don't exist — applying sophisticated analytical thought, comparing alternatives, and developing out‑of‑the‑box approaches that have broad impact on the business

What You’ll Bring

  • Deep hands‑on expertise with Claude Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, or comparable enterprise AI platforms — recognized as a go‑to resource for configuration, integration, and governance use cases at scale

  • In‑depth knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol), agentic AI frameworks, and emerging enterprise AI architectures — able to set technical specifications and guide others through complex implementations

  • Hands‑on expertise with the Teradata Autonomous Knowledge Platform (Vantage) or Teradata AI Studio — able to design governance analytics architectures and solve complex problems on the platform

  • Deep background in enterprise security architecture, identity and access management, or compliance tooling — with the expertise to anticipate vendor and regulatory changes and recommend proactive solutions

  • Proven track record designing and delivering enterprise governance or compliance automation — including audit logging frameworks, policy enforcement engines, and anomaly detection systems — working on the most technically complex assignments

  • Microsoft certifications (M365, Security, or Compliance‑related) or equivalent credentials demonstrating recognized expertise

  • Deep experience owning access governance, security architecture, and platform lifecycle management across large‑scale enterprise AI or technology portfolios — serving as the internal expert others consult

  • Track record of delivering high‑impact automation programs that solve complex operational problems — developing new approaches where existing solutions don't exist, and guiding others in applying those solutions across the enterprise
