Job description

The QC Scientist is responsible for performing routine chemical and physical analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished product materials within a GMP-regulated Quality Control laboratory. This role supports manufacturing and development operations by executing validated analytical testing methods, documenting results accurately, and ensuring compliance with established laboratory procedures and regulatory standards.

The QC Scientist I will work under established SOPs and quality systems while gaining hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation and pharmaceutical testing processes. This position offers potential for conversion based on performance.

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 6:00 AM โ€“ 2:30 PM

On-Call Requirement: One week of on-call coverage every 4โ€“6 weeks

Contract Type: Minimum 1-year temp/contract role (possible extension or temp-hire)

Pay Rate: $24.00/hr.

Key Responsibilities

โ€ข Perform routine chemical and physical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using established and compendial methods.

โ€ข Execute validated analytical test methods for identity, strength, purity, and quality attributes.

โ€ข Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation including HPLC, GC, and spectroscopy equipment.

โ€ข Conduct wet chemistry testing and other analytical procedures as required.

โ€ข Prepare reagents, test solutions, mobile phases, and media for laboratory testing.

โ€ข Perform daily instrument calibration, verification, and routine maintenance.

โ€ข Accurately document all testing activities, observations, and results in compliance with GMP, GLP, and SOP requirements.

โ€ข Identify, document, and escalate out-of-specification (OOS), deviations, or unexpected results.

โ€ข Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety standards.

โ€ข Follow all company policies, quality systems, and regulatory guidelines.

โ€ข Support continuous improvement efforts and participate in training and cross-functional learning opportunities.

โ€ข Assist with additional laboratory tasks as needed to support workload demands.

Qualifications

Education

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in Chemistry, Physical Science, or a related scientific field required.

Experience

โ€ข No prior experience required.

โ€ข Experience with analytical testing, chromatography, spectroscopy, or wet chemistry strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

โ€ข Basic understanding of analytical chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.

โ€ข Familiarity with HPLC, GC, spectroscopy, or similar instrumentation (preferred).

โ€ข Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

โ€ข Ability to follow SOPs, GMP/GLP regulations, and written procedures.

โ€ข Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

โ€ข Effective written and verbal communication skills.

โ€ข Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

โ€ข Willingness to learn new techniques and cross-train in multiple testing areas.

โ€ข Basic mathematical and data analysis skills.

Physical Requirements

โ€ข Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive laboratory tasks for extended periods.

โ€ข Ability to lift and move materials weighing 10โ€“35 pounds.

โ€ข Manual dexterity required for handling laboratory instruments and equipment.

โ€ข Ability to use computer systems and laboratory documentation tools for extended periods.

โ€ข Use of required PPE including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
