Job description

Job Summary
The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) is seeking a Student Marketing & Media Assistant to support the promotion of campus programs, events, and involvement opportunities. This position will utilize creative marketing and communication strategies to assist with the development of digital and print marketing materials, social media management, event promotion, and content creation that enhances student engagement and campus connectedness. The role provides students with opportunities to develop professional skills in marketing, communication, design, media production, and project coordination while contributing to a vibrant and engaging campus experience at the University of Michigan-Flint. This position is for a UM-Flint student who is enrolled at least part-time and who is available to work 15 hours per week for the duration of the employment period.
What You'll Do
  • Maintain and broaden social media reach and engagement to benefit the department as well as the student (user) experience, including the development of a social media calendar
  • Monitor and respond appropriately to social media comments/messages as directed
  • Create compelling marketing materials (print and digital) to inform and excite the target audience
  • Coordinate in-person marketing (e.g., tabling) for ODOS
  • Track inventory of relevant tabling and event marketing materials
  • Take event photos and/or video clips, and support photo/media organization and digital asset management
  • Maintain and update content within Campus Connections, including event postings, organization information, and marketing materials
  • Assist with the collection of surveys, opinion polls, or questionnaire data
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of campus events and engagement initiatives as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*
  • Must be an enrolled UM-Flint student for the full academic year with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Be in and maintain good disciplinary standing
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, CampusConnections, and Canva or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn)
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • High level of interpersonal skills: listen effectively and interact with people appropriately and professionally
  • Ability to speak publicly and represent the Office of the Dean of Students in a positive light
  • Available to work some nights and weekends
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and work with diverse constituents
  • Experience managing organizational or personal social media accounts preferred
  • Photography and/or video editing experience preferred
  • Basic graphic design knowledge preferred

Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
