Job description

JOB TITLE: School Social Worker

DEPARTMENT: SER YouthBuild Learning Academy (SER Metro Charter School)

DBA: SER Learning Academy

DIVISION: Youth Services

LOCATION: Samaritan Center (East) and Youth Reengagement Center (Southwest)

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time Temporary (10 hours/week)

JOB SUMMARY: We are looking for a School Social Worker with experience working with children. Our ideal candidate has a passion for supporting families and children with learning differences by ensuring they receive the best care and tools for success.

About SER YOUTHBUILD Learning Academy: SYLA is a charter high school for youth ages 14-21. Its model combines classroom instruction by a certified teacher with enabling students to learn a trade while in school, providing learners with the knowledge, skills, and self-discipline necessary to become successful citizens in a global society. At SYLA you will be part of a team that believes in this mission and makes real impact in young peopleโ€™s lives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide direct counseling services to children
  2. Collaborate with the clinical team to create a treatment plan or an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for each child, including identifying specific counseling related goals
  3. Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a studentโ€™s performance and behavior
  4. Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies
  5. Assess students with mental health concerns
  6. Develop staff in-service training programs
  7. Work with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment
  8. Assist teachers with behavior management
  9. Provide direct support to staff
  10. Will perform other duties as appropriate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
  2. Active license/ certification as a social worker for the state of Michigan (Must have LMSW and or LCSW)
  3. At least 2 years experience working in a school-based setting
  4. Experience with RTI/ MTSS and other intervention plans
  5. Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with children of different ages and from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  6. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  7. Exceptional interpersonal communication, computer and organizational skills.
  8. Ability to interact with students, parents and staff in a positive and productive manner.
  9. Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, post-secondary educational representatives and community partners.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  11. Experience working in an urban setting.
  12. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms.
  13. Must possess the ability to remain composed and work effectively during high pressured and stressful situations.
  14. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of office equipment.
  15. Must possess the ability to prioritize assignments, multi-task, meet and manage deadlines.
  16. Must represent SER Metro at all times in a positive and professional manner.
  17. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
  18. Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's License. Incumbent must also have reliable transportation.
  19. Must complete FBI fingerprinting and a satisfactory criminal background check must be received.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - This job operates in a normal school environment with a noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
