Job Description:
Limited Term Lecturer in Sports Management
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management is seeking applications for Limited Term Lecturers (LTLs) in Sports Management teaching HTM 33400 Intro to Sports Event Management, HTM 38800 Esports Management, and HTM 45000 Event Risk Management. We welcome applicants that can bring their passion for Sports Event Management, Esports, and Event Risk Management into the classroom. These courses will likely be taught Face-to-Face, with a possibility of hybrid or online. LTL positions are temporary, non-benefits eligible, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis.
Primary Responsibilities:
Introduction to Sports Event Management Description: This course provides a basic understanding of the event management process as it relates to sporting events. Students will explore costs and revenue streams, marketing strategies, community and media partnerships, risk management, and contemporary issues for sporting events.
Esports Management Course Description: This course studies the business and management of esports within the sports and tourism industries. Students explore how competitive gaming is organized, marketed, and monetized, with attention to event operations, sponsorship, branding, fan engagement, and the economic impact on host destinations. Emphasis is placed on applying sports management principles to live and digital gaming environments.
Event Risk Management Course Description: This course examines risk management practices in sports and special events. Students learn to identify, assess, and mitigate legal, financial, and operational risks while developing strategies for safety, security, and crisis response. Emphasis is placed on applying principles to protect guests, employees, assets, and organizational reputation through effective planning and decision-making.
Required Qualification:
- Candidates should minimally hold a Master's Degree in Hospitality and Tourism, Sports Management, Recreation, Esports Management, Event Management or related field from an accredited university
- Ability to effectively use teaching strategies and technologies for in-person learning
- Ability to utilize Learning Management System(D2L) for courses
- Priority will be given to those who have previous university teaching experience and/or industry experience with Sports Event Management, Esports, or Event Risk Management.
- Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position.
