Job description

What you'll bring to the team

The Ride Technician Team Leader leads and oversees a team responsible for performing safety-critical inspections of rides and attractions, including the execution of planned preventive maintenance activities. The role also carries out a variety of maintenance functions throughout the theme park and supports other maintenance personnel as directed by Maintenance Supervision.

The position is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and performing corrective maintenance on complex domestic and international ride and attraction systems and equipment. This is a working team leader position, with approximately 75% of the time spent in the field as a hands-on technician. The role is also responsible for directing the wider team and acting as the Technical Services Duty Manager when required.

The expectation for this role is that the individual will perform the normal day-to-day duties of a Ride Technician while taking on additional responsibilities to support the Ride Maintenance Supervisors and ensure the safe and effective operation of the wider maintenance team.

Please note this is predominately a night shift position.

Night Shift: 12.5-hour shifts

Scheduled Hours: 5:00 PM - 5:30 AM

Must be available to work assigned night shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required to support park operations and maintenance needs.

Qualifications & Experience

Main Responsibilities:

 

  • Complete daily shift reports to detail work completed and follow up action items.
  • Schedule planned and reactive work orders.
  • Communicate safety and reliability concerns to the wider leadership team.
  • Plan and order spare parts for effective delivery of all assets.
  • Train new and existing technicians on maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain workshop standards.
  • Conduct first line people management and performance.
  • Execute preventive maintenance programs and perform emergency repairs as needed to minimize ride and facility downtime.
  • Complete maintenance repairs thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain ride equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Inspect rides and attractions to identify and prevent safety hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with ASTM, NEC, state, local, and company safety and maintenance standards.
  • Operate basic machine shop equipment, including drill presses, power saws, grinders, and similar tools.
  • Identify equipment requiring repair, replacement, or adjustment and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Remain current on industry best practices, technologies, and maintenance techniques through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance team members and other departments to support park operations.
  • Adhere to all LEGOLAND Florida policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls to support the safety, comfort, and experience of guests and employees.
  • Maintain rides and attractions in compliance with applicable Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) requirements and company standards.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and guest-focused service at all times.
  • Mentor and train Ride Engineers and team members to support skill development and operational excellence.

Background and Experience:

  • Four years of experience installing, maintaining, and servicing electromechanical equipment as a journeyman or technician is required.
  • Possess strong mathematical aptitude and extensive knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rides, attractions, and other electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in the selection and use of hardware, fasteners, and precision measuring instruments, including micrometres and callipers, is required. Experience with torque-controlled assembly practices and the use of torque wrenches is preferred.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of electromechanical maintenance practices, including overhaul, repair, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance of ride systems, animatronics, utilities, and associated theme park infrastructure. Experience maintaining high-volume submersible and turbine water pumps is preferred.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, linear actuators, solenoids, and related equipment is highly desirable. Candidates should be able to interpret technical documentation, read and understand blueprints and schematics related to rides, attractions, and buildings, and possess the ability to review and evaluate maintenance reports.
  • A working knowledge of industrial lubricants and their proper applications is required.

Physical Demands:

 

  • Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.
  • Maintain excellent physical condition with the ability to perform the required duties of the job description.
  • Ability to work in hard to access areas such as uneven terrain, confined spaces, and high places.
  • Requires the use of safety goggles, gloves, ear plugs, respiratory devices, and rain gear when appropriate.
  • Wear appropriate footwear as prescribed by LEGOLAND Florida policy and procedures.
  • Wear uniform/clothing provided. Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance and conform to established LEGOLAND Florida appearance standards.
  • Frequent lifting of moderate to heavy loads (25-70lbs). Required to lift and move loads with uneven weight distribution.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walking to move about the park site, and interact with employees.

Education:

 

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent is required.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Work Environment:

 

  • Works in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures, weather conditions, and walking/working surfaces.
  • Regularly exposed to wet, humid, hot, cold, and other changing environmental conditions while performing maintenance duties.
  • May be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around operating rides, attractions, machinery, and equipment.
