Job description

Make a difference this summer by supporting teens as they take their first steps into the workforce.

Hattie Larlham is seeking a Summer Youth Employment Coach to guide high school students with disabilities through meaningful, community-based employment experiences.

This position is ideal for individuals with experience as a mentor, camp counselor, Job Developer, Transition Specialist, Vocational Coordinator, or Placement Specialist, and for those who enjoy coaching and motivating teens and young adults.

As a Summer Youth Employment Coach, you will work directly with students ages 15–21 at local businesses, helping them build essential job-readiness skills, workplace confidence, and independence through hands-on, on-the-job learning.

Summer Job Opening:

  • Summer Youth Employment Coach
  • Part-time, 25 hours / week, Monday to Thursday, 1st shift, flexible hours
  • 10-week program: June 8 – August 13, 2026
  • Various locations throughout Northeast Ohio
  • $17.00/hour for first time employees; $18.00/hour for returning (experienced) employees.

The Summer Youth Employment Specialist supports up to four high school students (ages 15 to 21) with disabilities as they complete a summer youth work experience at a local business. The goal of the program is to increase job-readiness through on-the-job training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Orient students to work environment.
  • Assist with training students to complete job responsibilities and to meet the expectations of the business.
  • Identify the need for adaptive equipment or work modifications.
  • Help students to identify natural supports at the worksite.
  • Gather information on aptitudes, abilities, behaviors, and preferences as related to the worksite through ongoing assessment and observation.
  • Exemplify professional behavior while providing instruction to encourage professional interactions with co-workers and customers.
  • Provide supervision per the student's plan.
  • Provide students with transportation to and from the worksite using personal vehicle, as needed.
  • Report unusual incidents and/or concerns to the Manager prior to the end of the shift.
  • Complete required documentation including daily progress notes, billing, and assessment forms. 

Working Environment: Monday through Thursday, first shift, at a local business such as a restaurant, grocery store, retail store, doggie daycare, zoo, etc. If travel is required to transport students, the employee is eligible for mileage reimbursement, which excludes the employee's daily commute mileage (first stop, last stop).

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Ohio Driver's License with less than 6 points
  • Reliable transportation with auto insurance
  • Attend paid orientation prior to June 1st
  • Available to work the full program
  • First Aid/CPR Certification – Free training provided
  • Pass criminal background check and drug screen
