Job description

Traveling Engineer Technician System One is seeking Traveling Engineer Technicians to support FAA communications and telecommunications infrastructure projects throughout the Southwest/Central U.S. region. This is a 100% travel-based field position supporting installation, integration, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and infrastructure upgrade activities at active project sites. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience supporting fiber optics, structured cabling, telecom systems, RF communications, electronics troubleshooting, wireless infrastructure, or complex electrical/electronic equipment in field environments. Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay Rate: Approx. $25-$35/hr
  • Additional Health & Welfare Pay: $4.93/hr paid for the first 40 hours worked each week
  • Duration: 6-month contract to start with strong potential for temp-to-hire based on performance and workload
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday | Approx. 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Overtime: 10-20% overtime expected during deployments
  • Work Location: 100% field-based travel throughout the Southwest/Central U.S.
Travel Information
  • Candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S
  • Candidates with a personally owned vehicle are highly preferred for transportation to and from project sites
  • Employees are deployed for extended periods and typically return home approximately every six weeks
  • All approved travel expenses are reimbursed at current GSA government rates
Responsibilities
  • Support site preparation for contractor installation of communications racks ranging from wall-mounted racks to multi-rack configurations
  • Install critical power circuits, grounding systems, convenience outlets, cable trays, conduits, and related infrastructure as specified within engineering packages
  • Install and support fiber optic cabling, telecom infrastructure, monitors, voice recorder systems, and communications equipment
  • Support LTE antenna installation activities and establish cable pathways for communications infrastructure
  • Install, terminate, splice, solder, repair, and replace various wire types including coaxial, shielded, stranded, and solid-core wiring
  • Remove and replace electrical components, wire bundles, terminal blocks, connectors, and related hardware
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems utilizing schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical publications, and related documentation
  • Troubleshoot, align, calibrate, and repair communications and audio equipment to the component level
  • Support testing, operational verification, inspections, and commissioning activities to ensure systems are fully operational
  • Install sensors, radios, computers, cabling, and communications systems in fast-paced field environments and varying weather conditions
  • Support redline updates and field documentation activities during construction and installation efforts
  • Perform additional field installation and technical support duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to travel up to 100%
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in extreme weather conditions
  • Basic Microsoft Office, internet, and email skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Military, trade school, technical school, or advanced electronics training preferred
  • 5+ years of experience supporting fiber optics, telecom systems, RF communications, or complex electronic equipment
  • Experience with OTDR testing, telecom cabling, wireless systems, or communications infrastructure preferred
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, or installing electronic transmitting/receiving equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation
  • Experience supporting radar, radio, telecommunications, networking, or navigational systems preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and field coordination abilities
