Position Summary Information
Duties
The AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) ASIM (Alabama Science in Motion) Materials Specialist is a professional staff member of the Regional In-service Center. The primary responsibility is the daily operation of the AMSTI materials center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Build math and science teaching kits using an assembly line
  • Break down math and science teaching kits using a disassembly line
  • Assist with inventory control through stocking kits and kit supplies, maintaining stock, and rotating stock
  • Assist in organizing the materials center to ensure safe storage and efficient use of space
  • Deliver and/or pick up equipment, materials, and supplies to/from participating teachers
  • Follow safety procedures, both on the road and while loading/unloading vehicles, as instructed by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE)
  • Monitor the condition of the vehicle and report issues to the direct supervisor to ensure that any repairs/problems are attended to immediately
  • Interact with Monday.com through scanner or minimal status changes
  • Assist with preparation for AMSTI and ASIM programs, trainings, presentations, and the operation of the materials center
  • Meet regular attendance and punctuality requirements
  • Accomplish essential functions in a timely manner
  • Help maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Represent ALSDE, AMSTI, ASIM, and the hiring Institution of Higher Education (IHE) and promote a positive impression by demonstrating a collegial and professional customer-service approach at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the business/materials manager, site director, BOLT, or AMSTI-ALSDE

Qualifications
QUALIFICAITONS REQUIRED:
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Experience may be substituted for education
  • Valid driver's license, must pass driver safety training, and an acceptable driving record required
  • Ability to operate IHE-owned motor vehicles while complying with safety codes, state and federal traffic rules, regulations, and safe operating practices
  • Ability to relate well to a diverse population
  • Proficient in the use of standard office software, including email
  • Demonstrated competence in oral and written communication
  • Strong organizational skills

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience with project management software preferred but not required
  • Experience in inventory control and driving non-CDL trucks preferred but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to: lifting up to 60 pounds, climbing, crouching/stooping, handling, pushing/pulling, repetitive movement, speaking, standing, walking/running, carrying, driving, keyboarding, reaching, sitting, squatting, twisting/bending, and writing
  • Ability to view information in print or electronically; near and distance vision required to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position, such as standing and/or sitting, for a prolonged period of time
  • Frequently communicates with others to exchange information
  • Frequently tasked with repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, such as operating a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Occasionally exposed to noisy environments

Salary Schedule
Salary Band: N70 - Salary range is $31,878 - $39,847. The AMSTI Materials Specialist is a non-exempt 12-month/40 hour per week position with benefits,
