What does a temporary structural engineer do?

A Temporary Structural Engineer is responsible for designing and analyzing temporary structures used during the construction process, such as scaffolding, formwork, shoring, and supports. They ensure these temporary systems are safe, stable, and comply with building codes while construction or maintenance work takes place. Their work involves close collaboration with construction teams to adapt designs to site conditions and project schedules. Temporary Structural Engineers play a critical role in preventing accidents and ensuring the overall safety of a construction site.

Familiarity with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and structural analysis tools like SAP2000 or ETABS is crucial, along with knowledge of building codes. Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you excel in project-driven, often deadline-sensitive environments. These competencies ensure safe, efficient, and compliant structural designs within the limited timeframe of temporary assignments.
