Job description

Job Description :
The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture, Fashion and Entertainment - with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 90 million unique viewers a month. Over the past 225 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.
Page Six Digital is the modern evolution of the iconic gossip column, delivering the latest in celebrity news, entertainment, and pop culture with a bold, fast-paced digital edge. As the go-to destination for breaking stories, exclusive scoops, and viral moments, Page Six has grown far beyond its print roots to become a dynamic, multi-platform brand that reaches millions of readers daily across web, social, and video.
The New York Post is seeking a knowledgeable Editor (temporary) to join the Page Six digital team. The Editor plays a central role in shaping and driving daily entertainment coverage for one of the most recognizable brands in celebrity and pop culture news. This person will help steer the newsroom's output, elevate story quality, and ensure timely, compelling coverage that resonates with our audience. The role requires strong editorial judgment, sharp news instincts, and the ability to lead with confidence in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment while collaborating closely across teams to maximize impact.
Note: The schedule for this role is Mon-Fri, 12-8pm EST. This is a temporary role expected to run through September.
Responsibilities:
  • Assign and edit multiple stories daily from a team of writers and reporters, ensuring accuracy, voice, and quality standards are met.
  • Write daily SEO-optimized news stories with speed, efficiency, and clean, engaging copy.
  • Approach the daily entertainment news cycle strategically, pitching ideas that advance stories and keep coverage competitive.
  • Exercise strong editorial judgment and operate independently, confidently making decisions in a fast-paced environment, particularly during evening hours.
  • Leverage traffic analytics (Google Analytics, Parse.ly, etc.) to inform coverage decisions and evaluate content performance.
  • Respond rapidly to developing stories, maintaining accuracy and composure while managing high-pressure, real-time news situations.
  • Collaborate closely with social, video, photo, and cross-functional teams to maximize the reach and impact of coverage.

Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in a digital newsroom environment, with a background in both writing and editing.
  • Exceptional editing, writing, and reporting skills, with a sharp eye for detail and voice.
  • Solid understanding of media law and best practices when reporting on sensitive or high-profile subjects.
  • Deep knowledge of celebrities, pop culture, and the evolving entertainment landscape.
  • Strong news judgment with the ability to craft compelling, SEO-optimized headlines that drive engagement.
  • Proficiency in SEO best practices and awareness of emerging social and digital trends.
  • Proven ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment.
  • Experience working with content management systems and utilizing web analytics tools to inform editorial decisions.
  • Flexibility to cover holidays, major live events (e.g., the Oscars, Super Bowl), and work nontraditional hours as needed.

Note: This position is open to candidates based in New York City or Los Angeles. The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model.
Please note that this is a temporary engagement facilitated through a third-party vendor. While the role supports The New York Post, employment and payroll will be managed by the vendor.
