Location: City of Industry
Position: General Worker
Pay Rate: $28.44
Shifts: Rotating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts
Shift rotation works like this:
work 7 days straight of 1st shift (6am - 2pm) from Saturday - Friday and off 3 days, Saturday - Monday.
come back on Tuesday and work 7 days straight of 2nd shift (2pm - 10pm) from Tuesday - Monday and off 1 day, Tuesday.
come back on Wednesday and work 7 days straight of 3rd shift (10pm - 6am) from Wednesday - Tuesday and off 3 days, Wednesday - Friday

City of Industry paper mill has an opening for a General Worker. This is a rotating shift position and is responsible to the Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, or Machine Tender.

What you'll be doing:

  • the safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered scrap material, the maintenance of the related equipment and general housekeeping of the beater room and yard area.
  • the safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered fiber
  • the maintenance of the related equipment and general housekeeping of the yard area
  • Unload baled recovered fiber using a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
  • Ability to learn and be able to recognize the different kinds of corrugated furnish (wastepaper) that is used in the formula mixes for the varied grades of paper that we produce.
  • Moves and stores the loose recovered fiber using a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment.
  • Keeps the storage area and aisles clean and orderly.
  • Loads fiber onto hydrapulper conveyor.
  • Hauls bales from storage and places them in temporary storage areas for consumption on the second and third shifts.
  • Safe and efficient operation of a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck to load the pulper conveyor with baled furnish and to unload baled furnish from flat-bed trailers and put them in storage according to type and grade. This also involves driving in the wastepaper area among other vehicles.
  • Safe and efficient operation of a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck for use in hauling bins, equipment, scrap rolls, etc. from one area of the mill to another. This also involves driving in the waste paper area among other vehicles.
  • Are able to obtain a fork truck license
  • Must follow Sonoco's best safety practices and report any damage or unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Have an excellent work history in the areas of safety and attendance
  • Are able to work a shift rotation (28 day cycle/ 1 weekend off per month), holidays, weekends and overtime
  • Attention to detail as our customers expect consistently superior performance and exceptional value with each order that they place.
